There will never be another album like Damnation by Opeth again.

According to Mike in a Bravewords.com interview Mike said they wont ever do another all acoustic album again (thank god) or satan. Mike said hes thinking about doing a darker black metal album on the occult, and also said it would be two thirty minute songs now thats more like it HAIL OPETH.
"I travel through the eternal flame
as the rain keeps falling"

Wow, two thirty minute dark BM songs, that'd be awesome! But I have to say I hate him just closing off any chance of there ever being another completly soft album. I think its amazing, and I haven't stopped listening to it sience I got it. So hope maybe some day there will be another acoustic based, clean album. However I would be very depressed if Mikeal and co. abbanded metal and the growl all together forever...

I'm quite glad, to be honest. I adore Damnation, but I'd be pretty upset if they decided to keep following the softer, prog direction.

I want Damnation to be a unique entry in Opeth's catalogue, of course I also want to see them continue to write songs in that vein. I also want to see Mikael continue progressing, and doing darker and more epic material is a logical continuation from Deliverance and Damnation, and a sure sign that Mikael has no intention of seeing Opeth lose their vitality...

Personally, I would love for the band to continue writing "Damnation" type songs.....at least 1/2 of each new album. Of course, I doubt this will happen.

I'm practically shocked at how awesome 'Damnation' is. After reading the reviews, etc., I never expected it to be this powerful & beautiful. It's a beautiful album, without flaw.

THere's not a bad note on it! I especially LOVE "Ending Credits"! What a perfect melody!

It doesn't particularly bother me that there will not be another mellow album. Though I loved Damnation for a couple of months, it is beginning to bore me now, while each of the other Opeth albums are still increasingly more captivating with each listen. Personally, I would prefer they continued the evolution of the sound used on all their albums since Morningrise. Though I love Orchid and Morningrise for what they are, the newer Opeth, though many would dissagree, is much more appealing to me.

As long as they keep writing some awesome acoustic songs on their future albums, I couldn't care less if they don't make another album like Damnation.

Everything they touch turns to gold, so I'm sure their black metal efforts will rock just as hard as their death metal / prog metal / acoustic efforts.

I absolutely LOVE Damnation but I agree it would be cool if it was a unique cd in their catalogue... of course they must keep writing mellow material.. an Opeth cd with no mellow parts would make me sad :) I hope theres atleast one all acoustic/clean piece on the next cd.
