They're canning Earl - what the hell!?

Hoyt, they're actually replacing it with SNL Weekend Update Thursday - like they did for a few weeks there during the 2008 election at first and then will later on shift the new comedy Community, starring Joel McHale of Talk Soup fame & Chevy Chase into that slot (from it's 9:30 PM ET original slot) and 30 Rock will return in October. Parks & Recreation was always going to be in the Fall 2009 TV lineup (much to my chagrin.) I think NBC might be overreaching here a bit as the Thursday SNL show mainly got viewers because of the Sarah Palin caricature expertly done by Tina Fey - and the timing was right. Unless they get her or Amy Poehler back behind the desk (or someone else notable) to pair with Seth Myers it will likely fail - he's needed a partner for quite some time as he hasn't carried that segment on his own very well, IMHO. Given that 30 Rock debuts after the SNL Weekend Update Thursday completes its run, I'm going out on a limb and guess that perhaps they've secured Tina Fey to come back behind the desk, but that's just my own speculation - no information regarding casting has been announced.

Back to the original topic, there is still a chance that FOX will pick up My Name Is Earl, but nothing has been announced as yet... we can still cross our fingers.

In the meantime, if you weren't watching Better Off Ted on Tuesday nights make sure to add it to your list as it is one of the funnier comedies on TV right now.

Oh, I'm disappointed to hear that! I think Joy's character is absolutely hilarious. One of my fav episodes was her wedding. :)

For the reception, how should I have my chicken? Grilled or McNuggeted?

Not a fan. Never thought the show was funny at all, actually. I'm sorry for you guys who are fans, but honestly, I don't mind it being cut.

I've only seen the show a couple times, but I enjoyed it as well. Still has a lot of room for expansion and story lines.

I don't miss TV at all... All the crap reality shows... the horrible sitcoms... predictable dramas.

I agree...TV for the most part sucks, big time! This is Wednesday and I bet I haven't watched 30 minutes of TV this week. It bores me to tears.

I have been getting into 24, but only because I bought the first season on DVD at a used CD/DVD store recently.

Completely disagree. I'm by no means a TV addict, but there's a lot of good stuff on it. Whether you like series, comedy... There's a lot of good stuff on it. Saying that everything is crap is like having the same mentality that says all music that's not metal is crap.

There is a LOT of garbage out there, but (at least from my perspective) there's also enough good stuff on TV to keep me occupied for about 8 months out of the year, and prevent me from having a social life. :)

There is a lot of quality stuff out there, and if you can honestly say that all (or "almost all") TV is crap, then perhaps TV just isn't your thing.

Then again, if you're into stuff like Dexter and Nip/Tuck (gritty dramas with witty dialogue and occasional black humor), you should definitely check out Californication, True Blood, and Supernatural, as well as the FX dramas Rescue Me, Damages, and Sons of Anarchy (all shows that are still active), as well as Firefly, Dead Like Me, Six Feet Under, Deadwood, and Carnivale (all cancelled, but all on DVD so you can watch them at your convenience!). I guarantee you would like at least half of these shows. On the not-quite-so-gritty side are Chuck, Party Down, and Reaper. On the not-quite-so-humorous side are 24 and Dollhouse (the best show on TV, IMO).

I must fit into this category, because 99.9% is total crap, imo. You can take away my TV and I could care less, but if you take away my music, I'd croak! :)

I totally agree w/ everyone here! Earl was the shit imho! So many great guest stars too! I also agree about Seth Myers w/o Amy Poehler, or any partner for that matter! The "Really" segment, I think totally sucks w/o someone else! Oh well, maybe another
network will pick it up? Maybe? CBS just picked up "Medium" btw! So it might happen! Who knows?!

Saying that everything is crap is like having the same mentality that says all music that's not metal is crap.

Come on Milton, putting it in that perspective is like saying people shouldn't order a Diet Coke with a McDonalds cheeseburger meal.

Since I got rid of cable last year and the converter boxes are a joke, I've found that I don't miss TV. I never really watched a lot of it to start with, perhaps the news or the old sitcom re-runs. But I have yet to find a single current show (aside from the two mentioned above) that was worth my time watching.... Especially when I could be doing something productive like finding houses to move to, catching up on sewing, playing games with my son, learning guitar again...

Bottom line, nothing on TV is entertaining enough to me to pull me from the other activities I am doing.

I agree with that.

I'll have to check those out. I tried "Brotherhood" and it was OK, and "Weeds" was pretty good. Dead like me caught my interest before I disconnected cable, but never saw any of them.
