Yeah, you're right. On one hand, the dude knew what he was getting into, on the other hand it's a country where it's okay to pay to fuck 11 year old boys but it's not cool to traffic drugs.

I just think that the punishment should fit the crime. No one ever forced a herion user to buy the shit. I really don't think the governments should be involved in that shit anyway. If I or someone else wants to throw their life away over something fucking stupid like Herion, then I think that should be a right. It's like these corporations here in the U.S. that drug test their employees. Fuck off. If you catch me in the act of doing it, good for you. If not, it's none of anyone's business what's inside my body (except when I get drunk and call random men at night, then I tell them exactly what's inside of me at the moment :Spin: )

I agree with the first part of what you said. About the second part, though, it's not a "right" to work for those places. So while it may be a waste of time and money for them to drug test their employees, I don't see a reason why they shouldn't be allowed to. You don't HAVE to work, but you do HAVE to deal with governments. (Though it is worthwhile to drug test employees who operate heavy machinery, perform surgery, etc.)

From a business owners point of view a person that uses hard drugs(not pot, mushrooms, etc)is a liability, let me explain my position, I have service orientated business, sometimes my techs have togo in peoples homes. If I have a tech thats strung out on lets say coke he is more apt to steal, not only from me but the people who trust us to go in to their homes or they are more apt to overlook something, or forget something. Would you like someone who is strung out or doped up going into your house?

hahah but you'd like them going in there on mushrooms?!?!?! haahh thats one fucked up business you are running

heeey the pc's meeeeelting, your face looks furry !

I meant on their off tiime

yeah, but companies drug test for marijuana, and if I want to smoke some on a weekend to get me in the mood, then what should anyone care? I'm not doing it at my office. I just think without probable cause, people should not be tested for drugs by anyone, for any reason. I mean, why be treated like you are guilty until proven innocent? I think oppression invites rebellion, and that makes it worse for everyone. Sorry, but I just smoked some killer bud

I know it's harsh but he knew what he was doing.
This amount of horse he was smuggling would cost many people's lives.

So did I !!

The majority of everyone in every single class is addicted to drugs. Be it Caffeine, Coke, Pot, EX, Crack, Heroin, Crystal Meth, painkillers, alcohol, nicotine etc etc. Whatever society deems today as either:
a)ok
b)morally acceptable
c)punishable lightly
d)morally condemnable

can differ vastly tomorrow.

I think the gov't should focus more on rehab as opposed to harsh punishments. I know how to balance work and play. Unfortunately alot of people don't.

If this dude gets executed or already has, it does go to show how barbaric this country is.

Singapore Laws:

Bungee jumping is illegal.
The sale of gum is prohibited.
Homosexuals are not allowed to live in the country.
Oral sex is illegal unless it is used as a form of foreplay.
Pornography is illegal.
As it is considered pornographic, you may not walk around your home nude.
Failure to flush a public toilet after use may result in very hefty fines.
It is considered an offense to enter the country with cigarettes.
Cigarettes are illegal at all public places.
It is illegal to come within 50 meters of a pedestrian crossing marker on any street.
If you are convicted of littering three times, you will have to clean the streets on Sundays with a bib on saying, "I am a litterer.
It is illegal to pee in an elevator.

Well its been a pretty big deal over here in Oz and I know its so easy for people to say he knew the risks, he knew the laws, yada yada.

Ok fair enough.

Imagine if he was your son or brother?
Would you feel the same?

Not so black and white now is it?

Singapore laws they may be but what a load of BS they are. Yes Van knew the deal - yes he was guilty and should've served his crime with a hefty prison sentence but hanging is barbaric and served no purpose here other than to make an example to other drug users.

Not advocating the trafficking or usage of drugs but surely hanging was just so extreme. They also paraded his body under a sheet for all the media to see.

Anyway my two cents on this.

If you don't like the terms of your employment, find another employer.

I don't know, I still say hanging someone is harsh. I would much rather catch a bullet to the heart then be hung.

Jdelpi, they are all like this. It's just goimg to get worse. It's not that it's drug testing so much, that it isn't any of their business in the first place. Is their any kind of piss test I can give my boss to find out if he downloads kiddie porn? No. But I think I have a right to know who I'm working for, right?

You have a warped view of rights. Rights are protections against government intrusions and against other people with whom you choose not to associate. If you forbid (through government action) companies from testing their employees for illegal drugs, then you are infringing on their right to run their companies as they see fit. It may not be a good decision on their part, but they can fuck up their business however they see fit.

I have to say, I agree with you to an extent. They are testing for illegal drugs. People do not have the right to do illegal drugs; therefore their rights are not being infringed upon.

Well, I don't think the drugs should be illegal and do think people for the most part have the right to use which drugs they want. Regardless, if people do not wish to associate with those who use such drugs, they should be allowed to do that.

Okay... what am I missing in this quote? You'll have to forgive me, I'm a little slow.:erk:
