To everyone of you Deliverance naysayers: I cannot wait until about 1 month from now when you guys have actually listened to the album more than once or twice; when you begin to praise it like its the second coming.

Mark my words, it will happen. You will like it. Give it time. Deliverance is just as good as any other Opeth release. It's different from their other albums just like every other album has been different from the others.

I just don't see how any Opeth fan could dislike this album off the bat. I've had it for quite a while now, and I remember popping it in for the first time, and hearing the first ten seconds of Wreath and knowing this album was going to be amazing. It has everything that is Opeth in it. Sure, its a bit heavier, but whats wrong with that? The music is still absolutely amazing. I honestly thought this would be the one Opeth album with no controversy over whether it is good or not when it came out. Apparantly everyone on this board has to dislike new opeth albums for the first few weeks they own it, and then after that come to their senses and start posting how much they love it.

I just know its going to happen. Just wait.

As good as Orchid, which is fairly impressive or as good as BWP which is mostly plain boring?

'Deliverance' may be played a tad more often by me than 'Blackwater Park' (which I still cannot sit through, because the album is boring), but not much. 'Deliverance', like 'Blackwater Park', has too many of the elements of Opeth I don't like, mainly those crunchy riffs & repetitive elements. I do like crunchy riffs, but I think Opeth is far more superior with the two guitars doing different melodies, the more progressive structure of songs like "Advent" or "The Moor" and the distinct howling instead of only the deep growls.

Ive had Deliverance for about a week and a half now, and I think it is amazing. Another vast extension to the Opeth ladder. It is truly a work of art, and where some people won't accept it, most do because it is a sheer masterpiece. It is different, but still Opeth.
As we all, or most know that Damnation is going to be completly off style of Opeth, people again are just going to have to accept it. I know I will :D

That is actually what made them so unique in the beginning, and the reason why I love the first two albums so much. But I think maybe they could not have made a third album like that without repeating themselves, so it's not entirely bad they moved on.
 :( :)

deliverance is a fucking masterpiece, and i mean it
at first listen, I could tell it was good but I had some complaints
I didn't think the melodies were as good and I didn't think the clean vocals were loud enough
well after getting used to it and getting to know it, I think the melodies are amazing, and the clean singing is just right for the mood and atmosphere of the album
I don't see how any opeth fan could be negative at all about it...it's classic opeth with some twists here and there...which is good

First time I listened to Deliverance I was like 'ehh.. its ok.' And I know some of you out there are really dissapointed in it. But I listened to it and listened to it over and over and it sounded better and better each time. Now I fucking love it. It is my "album of the moment." I swear.. its like all I've listened to for the last weeks. Its a great fucking album and I am not dissapointed in the least bit. And for all of you who think Opeth is going down the tubes and the album sucks.. just listen to it more. I know I'll be seeing posts from people saying "I hated it, but now I love it... boy was I wrong."

Definetely leafblower. There is no way somebody can dislike "Deliverance", even if they've been a fan of Opeth since the beginning. And if they do claim they don't like "Deliverance", then there is absolutely no doubt whatsoever that they've only listened to it once, maybe twice.

Deliverance, love it. Has all the good elements from all previous albums plus some! The current favorite thing for me right now (haven't had a chance to listen to the Martins really)...is the vocal and guitar layering as well as the SWEET riffs. Everyone knows how riff-tastic Opeth are, and they definitely don't shy away from it....But on Deliverance, they are played so passionately...evoking the feeling from the first two albums (could it be that they are using more twin guitar harmonies?)...but it's with riffs that are VERY reminescent of Still Life and BWP...PLUS....Mikael's vocals are k.i.l.l.e.r. Maybe people are saying that it sounds a lot like Porcupine Tree (I wouldn't know cause I've only heard a couple of thier songs), but to me it just sounds good. Goes perfectly with the music...
I wasn't too sure of what to expect from this album....they've 'progressed' so much over 5 albums. It's interesting though, because this is the first of their albums that I've liked from the second it started playing. Maybe it's because I've learned just accept it as good music...and to not put too many expectations on it based on the past. If it rocks, it rocks!

That's interesting....I've never heard anyone say that Orchid was better than Blackwater Park. In my opinion..orchid was kind of an unpolished Opeth...Blackwater Park was pure euphoric bliss!

i cant believe to this day that people would say anything negative about bwp, i think its just mindblowing and im all for evil atmosphere and melody....as for deliverance just as good! tommorow ill get my real copy, im looking forward to it....
