Does anyone know of some good speakers for laptops?
My moms birthday is coming up fairly soon and she listens to music on her computer and it sounds like butt.
I wanna get her some decent speakers.

well I can plug it into my hifi.... It has an mp3 player connection at the front and I use a double mini phono double ended Victor penis thing.

You know what I mean.

When I didn't have a surround sound system I used Logitech speakers. Very nice and not that expensive.

I just went down to an electronics store, and bought a $30 set of Altec Lansing speakers, comes with a sub and 2 speakers. That was the best $30 I spent in a long time, they sound great, and the sub puts out some decent bass.

Headphones.
+1 for headphones.

The only reason I can imagine you specifying that it's for a laptop is that you want them to be portable and the only decent, affordable and portable sound you're going to get is from headphones. You don't need to cough up crazy money for audiophile-grade Sennheisers either. I have a pretty pricey pair of studio headphones for monitoring but when it comes to just chilling out to music I prefer my $25 pair of lower-mid-range Philips headphones.

If you don't care about portability... being a laptop makes no difference. If you don't care too much, anything by Logitech or Creative is a good bet. If you're going to spend any real money though, you can pick up a decent AV receiver/amp and speaker set which does more than the higher-end "computer" speakers for about the same price. I picked up a cheap Sherwood amp (RD7502 or something from memory), two factory second floor-standing Jamo speakers and a Jaycar powered subwoofer for $550 as factory seconds back when the top Creative speakers were running at aroud $800 and I certainly wasn't left wanting.
