thoughts on Pantera

Never been into them, they weren't one of the bands that got me into metal, which probably helps for a lot of people.

The odd song is listenable enough when drunk, but come on - most of it is arrogant groove metal drudgery.

Good Fucking Post Maiden!

i disagree. pantera get far far far far far far far far far far (etc) too ripped on for two fairly unfair and unwarranted reasons:
1. they "stole" their sound from exhorder. its obviously very derivative, but even then, i dont see why pantera can't be liked in the same vain as other bands who are remarkably derivative, but nonetheless rock.
2. fanboys who say things like "rip dime *sob*. we love you". they aren't the band, and shouldnt preclude you from liking them.

anyone who doesn't like cfh should get their head checked. that album kicks all sorts of arse.

and i agree, that video is funny. :)

It really sucks when we agree on something.

Pantera was the shit.
The rhythm section was so tight it may as well have been bolted together - and Phil has a great voice. I think their use of guitars as a primarily rhythmic instrument in many sections influenced tons of bands - and DEFINETELY not just in the new metal canon.
People say they ripped off Exhorder but I think that is a bit too far. I would agree with byrne when he calls the sound "derivative." They were far better in any case.

Has anyone seen that video of Domination live in Moscow? Fucking awesome.

Pantera were ok. Simple, but OK. Don't get me wrong - I listen to them from time to time, and hey, I saw them live once, but they aren't even the best band to feature Phil Anselmo...

Indeed. You rarely ever see any metal fans bitch about how early Obituary sounds like Celtic Frost and how early Kreator sounds a lot like The Possessed and so on.

I disagree. Cowboys From Hell album is rather weak.

I haven't had much exposure to Pantera, but I have heard the song "Walk" which people say is their best song, and I was completley underwhelmed. It was really simple with simple vocal delivery. Then Dime did a really fast guitar solo. I don't think that complexity is always best, but this was simple to the point of boring.

this cd got me into them (im only 14 so when they first came out i was really youn or not born) my brother listens to them alot and got me into them rise is a good song RIP Dimebag
