Does everyone remember the rumors that Slayer were prophets? I even remember the ultra conservative Cincinnati Enquirer reviewing Slayers concert ( for the first time it had to be) saying maybe Slayer is on to something in todays world with their anti religious music of violence.

I was working music retail the day that came out. That and Jay-Z's "Blueprint" album were the big new releases that Tuesday.
Guess which one we sold out of? That's right, 30 copies of SLAYER. Creepy how that came out THAT day. Wonder how the band felt about that publicity....
I remember later that day cranking Payback and Disciple in my store, people were loving it, even those who don't usually listen to this music. With the day's events, those two songs and New Faith "I drown the bible in pool of blood so that none of its lies can affect me..." man, it had been awhile since Araya had sounded sooo convincing.

Yeah I spent most of the morning glued to the internet and television but went down to the local music store to pick up the Super Extra Expanded (But With NO Bonus Material Whatsoever) Uber Evil Edition of God Hates Us All. It's not terrible, and if anything it's probably the most intense Slayer album ever due to all out madness, but... it's just not that good. Payback is pretty awesome though.

I think Payback is the best Slayer song since South of Heaven. And whats not to like about those lyrics? They are good and violent, a return to the Reign in Blood glory days. Even better as Adrian said, is Arayas vocal delivery, its some of his best work ever. However there are some real klunkers on that album: Threshold, Bloodline, Here Comes the Pain. But on the whole it sounded like a cross between Entombed and Slayer.
