Well Borknagars Epic never managed to surface THIS year, so it will have to wait until next year to get listed.

The best ones this year i would say is (in no particular order)

Deströyer 666 - Defiance (a true masterpiece)
Code - Resplendant Grotesque (one of the few interesting black metal-
releases this year)
Slayer - Hate Worldwide (.. the best one since God Hates Us All or maybe
Reign in Blood)
Megadeth - Endgame (bonecrushing)
Immortal - All Shall Fall (not as strong as one had hoped for, but still very
good, Mount North!!!!)
Dream Theater - Dark Clouds & Silver Linings (I've lost interest in these guys already in the middle of the 90's, but this album is the true follow up to
Images & Words)
Devin Townsend Project - Addicted (this is how pop-metal should sound)
Nile - Those Whom The Gods Detest (first album i actually liked from these
guys)

Did i forget any great releases?

Cormorant - Metazoa
Giant Squid - The Ichthyologist
Wardruna - Runaljod - gap var Ginnunga
Vreid - Milorg
Mastodon - Crack the Skye
Dråpsnatt - I Denna Skog

Edit: Wardruna isn't metal but it's too damn good to leave off the list.

My Top ten up to now without any order

Paradise Lost - Faith Divides Us...
WASP - Babylon
Vreid - Milorg
Solstafir - Kold
Amorphis - Skyforger
Savage Blade - We Are The Hammer
Code - Resplendant Grotesque
Immortal - All Shall Fall
Belphegor - Walpurgis Rites - Hexenwahn

And im still waiting for another good release this year to complete my list ;-)

Arckanum - ppppppppp
Gorgoroth - Quantos Possunt Ad Satanitatem Trahunt
Samael - Above
Hypocrisy - A Taste of Extreme Divinity
Code - Resplendant Grotesque

I'm sure I forgot a couple, but these are on my cd player the most.

I completely agree with devin townsends "addicted" far better than the more experimental "ki".

my votes aren't worth a ton due to not listening to too much new music, i spend alot of time filling out my collection with stuff that i missed from previous years, but the other albums i've enjoyed a ton this year are God Forbids Earthsblood, and Hypocrisys new one.

Code - Resplendent Grotesque
Drudkh - Microkosmos
Vreid - Milorg
Fen - The Malediction Fields
Dråpsnatt - I Denna Skog
Slagmaur - Von Rov Shelter
Sturmgeist - Manifesto Futurista
Shining - VI Klagopsalmer

Wardruna - Runaljod - Gap var Ginnunga.

To be honest, I have been disappointed by so many bands this year I can't even pick anything  I mean Lady Gaga put out some sick records though...

Oh, forgot about the very fine Absu-release... definitly a solid record even though its not nearly as good as the classic Tara...

Fejd - Storm
Wardruna - Runaljod - Gap var Ginnunga
Solstafir - Kold
