Tomorrow I'm meeting with a friend (vocalist for Karma Violens at the moment) so I can get him to do some vocals for a couple of tracks of mine just because I think it's about time i had something recorded already....

I'd really like some comments so I can clear things up a bit without loosing the beefness (adding some is always nice :) ) ...
Not the best guitar or bass player there is but I'm working on it....i hope....

I'm also leaving the "what's the music like" comments to you...

Never mind the rodents....

Everytime i try to up the mids a bit it ends up sounding nasal....
Another thing is that from what i've seen all the impulses, spectums etc that has been the talk of the forum are giving a mid scooped sound...
Why is everything giving a scooped sound if you have to eq the shit out of it to make it stand out?
I must be getting something wrong here...

What the heck..i'll keep working on it.....did you like the tunes at least or were they "scooped" also?? :P

Well, it's important not to "scoop" the mids entirely but putting too much mids does not make sense also for rythm guitars, and can turn into a ugly sound depending on your amp and the kind of tone you like.

Then there are amps that are more "mid-rangey" than other ones so you can set the mids lower than with other amps to have a decent rythm sound (That's why you can see 5150 with mids only at 10'30 or something and still it sounds very good in the mix). Then it depends also on your guitar pickups frequency response, and so on...

And then the way you set the EQ apart from the mids (treble, bass, presence...) will have an impact on how tweaking the mids changes the sound.

Basically if adding too much mids makes your amp turn into something mushy, then you should try different settings first on your amp, and at the end if adding mids makes your guitar sound a way you don"t like, you have to find a compromise so that you have enough mids to cut through the mix but not too much so that you still like the way the guitars sound.

If you need further help here you should post more details about the way you got this guitar sound :

-guitar/pup's
-amp / settings + cab + mic used and its placement OR if you use a POD or something give the settings also

-EQ settings on guitars in your DAW

and so on...

About the music itself i'm not like "wow man it's badass i'm gonna buy the album right now blalabla" and it's mainly due because it's not complete yet (production and no vocals) and the songs are quite long with many riffs.

When i listen to it i think about Exodus (the sound and some riffs/patterns), Testament, weird black-metallish (Dimmu Borgir to be exact) keyboards, a part that could be in a God forbid song at 2'50 in the track "at the beginnign there was ham".

So it's like heavy thrash metal between the Bay Area stuff and more modern stuff a la god forbid with keyboards.

Sounds cool but i'd like to hear with a better sound and vocals :)

Thx to everyone for the replies....
There are so many things involved because I used totally different setups for the two tracks.....so I'll only mention the basic stuff...
The first was done with wagner and impulses using a jackson with emg85 using PODxt's screamer....
The second one was PODxt alone...
For both the bass was my ibanez bass using the same pod screamer settings and into SVX...
4 guitar tracks on both, 2 for bass....

I don't know what would interest anyone to know on my mix... It's not like it is a good mix and i should share my settings, so it's kinda awkward...
I just did a second mix on one of the tracks....trying for a more mid range sound...
Anyone cares to take a listen?
I did it with headphones just for a change and didn't have the time to try it on different speakers...so this could be totally wrong....
