sick of the JB ive got in the bridge of my LP, used to love it when i was gigging but now for recording its a no no, i saw Lasse refer to JB`s as "flubby" thats exactly it!!
anyway , im thinking of replacing it with a full shred and trying the JB in the neck, before you all laugh at me and tell me not to do it, im wondering if theres anyone out there that have tried this or sumthin similar??
i never mess with pickups myself so id like to gather a few of you guys thoughts before i hand it over to a repair guy (not to sound like a total doughnut)

fanx

This is 100% bullshit. EMG 81 much?

The JB sounds awesome in the neck - give it a shot.

The Full Shred bridge, on the other hand, sucks IMO. Very fuzzy and wooly, especially in the midrange. The bridge FS works in the neck quite well, but the neck FS is terrible IMO.

damn man , fuzzy and wooly is definately what i dont want...

thanks for advice!

I'm hesitant to even give out this information because I want to grab another pair before they sell out, but I found a place that sells un-labelled Seymour Duncan pickups for 30 bux a set. I am not quite sure which model they are exactly, but they absolutely exceeded my expectations and work great for modern metal, no flub at all.

They look like a lot the Jb/59 set. Almost the same output. Bought 3 sets :)

At 14k it'll be a Custom or C5; anyone able to post pictures of it? Duncans have very specific baseplates.

Yeah, look like more like a C*. But the overwound neck at 10k looks like a overwound 59 or something.

10k? doesnt that ad say neck-12k?

My bad, even worse; no Duncan neck pickup is 12k. The DDn is 12.7k but there's no way they'd pair that up with a 14k bridge pickup and it's not made as a 'set' that there would be bulk of for GFS to buy in the first place.

Anyways, if you're tired of the flubby JB, look into the Custom. It'll be a lot tighter and a little more aggressive, but also more open and less weird in the midrange.

thanks man, appreciate your help ;)

I am almost 100% sure that these pickups are some sort of rejected batch from a Duncan factory. They look exactly like a Duncan pickup and use the same type of wiring.

Regardless of if they actually are Duncan or not, they are at the very least a great deal :Smokedev:

cant argue with that, and thanks for the heads up.

I bet they're Duncan Designed if they're Duncan's at all. I'm just skeptical of any knockoff pickup - it really isn't that much more expensive to get the real thing and not risk it.

This.

I've used JB, Custom, and Distortion. The JB is a great pickup, but as you said it can be a bit flubby in the wrong guitar or if you downtune below say Eb. My first recommendation if you want tighter without sacrificing fat tone would be the Duncan Distortion, and Custom second. The Distortion is my perfect metal pickup, it's just everything you need for metal and no bullshit. The Custom I like as well, but its very midrangey and can be a bit bright or peaky in the wrong guitar, but also a solid choice. And yes, the JB sounds great in the neck, that's where I've got mine now with Distortion in bridge.

Dude, thousands of people, including me use GFS stuff - it's no secret. I've had a few different models of their own pickups and have been happy with them.

Apparently ARTEC is one manufacturer that seems to get mentioned when it comes to rebranded pickups.

I don't think that guy has tried the full shred in the right guitar or at ALL... The FS is by far the least fuzzy of all the duncan high output pickups... Its also the tightest and clearest, and no this is not a opinion its a fact.
