Titanic

Christ people, if you dont' like Titanic, don't bitch about it to me. I wont' sympathize one bit.

You should have expected this when you started this thread . Are you surprised so many people don't like this movie ??

i never watched the titanic because it looked boring and i heard it was like 3 hours long or something.probably my mom and sister watched it though

I'm a chic and I've never seen it, nor do I want to, it just doesn't interest me one bit. I'm more into horror films/zombies/werewolves/good murder films/alien/predator and a right good thriller.

I am tempted to see it just so I can revile it, but the temptation is too weak.

I didnt' see Titanic for 5 years after it came out, and started going along with all the bashing of it and shit that people do nowadays. (And to the person who asked me if I thought I'd think people liked it: YES WHERE HAVE YOU BEEN It's not the highest grossing film of all time for no reason. *Sigh. Duh...What a stupid thing of you to say.:err: )

Anyway Demiurge, I watched it again last summer and was amazed that it was still a good film and I felt bad for bashing it. So maybe you should just do that. In fact, come over and we'll watch it together.

I agree that it was way too commercialized, and that even I was sick of all the talk after a while, but that doesn't mean it's a bad film--- If you're into movies with more substance then just gore and zombies, that is.

Actually, I am not surprised this topic wasn't received warmly.

I have no idea where you're from... :p

When you start a thread about ANYTHING you have to expect that some people will disagree with it . If it hurt your feelings - tough fucking shit .

And for the record I like all types of movies : comedy , drama , romance , horror , action , sci-fi , thriller , true crime , independent films , everything . I simply do not like this one .

Please continue with the insults - it really amuses me .

Someone needs to excavate the Titanic, rebuild it, put a large mack truck on it, then back it over Susperia.

lol... every thread i go to it seems like your either making fun of someone, somthing, or some band... or some pirates...AAAAAAAARRG!!!!

Hey wtf..lay off the junior high insult fest, kiddies..sheesh. At least try and pretend to be civil adults, eh? Sheesh..I'm a moderator, not a babysitter.

Devious DVO: I know you're trying to impress Judas69, but bashing a film about an event in which 1,500+ men, women, children and animals died just makes you seem cruel and heartless.

Those people didn't die because they were in the middle of a war, it was nothing expected or deserved----In fact, the Titanic sinking was seen as the last possible thing to happen---- I want to say it's kind of like the people who were going to work at the Twin Towers felt before 911, but I can't really because that had more to do with war...

The sinking of the Titanic was the end of an era, it was the ''end of man's arrogance'', for a while. We all know men (and when I say men I mean people in general, please dont' throw a fit Judas) today are just as arrogant as always and even more so. For a while man no longer felt on top of the world. No ship was again deemed 'unksinkable', or that ''god himself could not sink this ship'. And then both World Wars came and everyone suffered a great depression that no one would have ever expected in 1912 when the Titanic set sail for the first (and last) time.

Human arrogance is represented by the first class---specifically Caledon Hockley, in the film. It's just like it is today and has always been where the wealthy are running the world. The third class were mainly immigrants wanting to come to America to just start a new life, have new opportunity and be on the greatest ship ever built. It was an incredible honor for them and no one saw death as an end result.

Basically what I'm saying is, have some respect. Okay, the movie wasn't your cup of tea, it had some cheesy dialogue and was way too commericalized by the dicks at Paramount and Fox. What is so awful about that?? A Hollywood director actually decided to make a film about a subject he'd been taken with his entire life, and that people in general have been fascinated by since it happened. You didn't like it. As a woman, I would have expected more of you than the childish name-calling and shit that Judas, or John or whatever his name is does. I'm kind of half-expecting another immature response from you to this, but also hoping not. Alright I'm done.

Well personally I despice romantic movies but Titanic was alright.
I respect Cameron for the fact that instead of taking stock footage of the wreck, he actually went down there and filmed it himself.
But movie-wise thank the gods for that iceberg.
The movie was going downhill before it hit and the hit brought some excitement into the movie.
Other then that it was the swedish people that from time to time said something in swedish that was pretty amusing.

Susperia, I tried to be diplomatic in this thread with regards to Titanic, yet you angrily swept my opinions aside as if I was missing something.

Point is: objectivity does not exist, and folks are free to express a disliking for the film if they desire - Although the idiotic responses in this thread were not good examples of that.

I have reverence for world war II veterans, but I am still allowed to dislike WWII movies, in the same way I can see the movie Titanic as visual feast that remained fairly damn hollow and not insult the memories of those who died.

The movie only seemed so slow and dull because everyone knows that the Titanic was going to sink at some point later on in the movie. I'm not saying that death was the reason people went and saw it, but there's definitely a level of curiosity and interest when the opportunity to see a tragedy presents itself. That's why there are plenty of shows on television these days that revolve around things such as forensic investigations and aircrash investigations. The movie isn't bad purely because humans expect all the good bits to be skipped to almost instantly.

The trouble is, we're never satisfied. Usually it's either the movie took too long to get to the part everyone wanted to see, or the movie got into things way too quickly and there was no story progression or introduction. If James Cameron had skipped to the Titanic sinking, there wouldn't have been much of the movie at all. If anything the story was supposed to be about the diamond necklace that the team were searching for, when instead they happened to hear the story from an actual surviver instead. A surviver who, unbeknownst to them, had the necklace they wanted.
