To whammy or not to whammy, that is the question!

i was just wondering if you guys were big time whammy bar users or not.

When I first got my ibanez, i was cranking up and down on that thing like there was not tomarrow, but as of late i have been using it less and less. So much to the point that i am thinking about buying a guitar with a hardtail. I was reading and article interviewing Jake E Lee and he made a comment about how he didn't mind people using bars, but it is annoying to see people use them as an excuse to get into and leave solos. I took this in and listened to some music and i was like "wow, he is 100% correct." Sure i still use it from time to time and it is fun for alot of things, but i was just curious of your opinions.

Yeah, when I first got a guitar with a rose on it, I used it like there was no tomorrow but it slowly grew to where I hardly ever used it, and now since I locked my main guitar down with the Tremolo-no, I haven't looked back. For me the pain-in-the-ass'ness of it outweights the usefullness.

(lol, new word: "pain-in-the-ass'ness", love it...)

Once I get my OFR installed, the same thing will probably happen to me. But the Tremol-No is always the answer :kickass:

no they dont got a good website? thats one like i love about my 350, it hardly ever goes outta tune.

and back on subject. I think a whammy bar is alot like a wah pedal. At first it is awesome and you don't stop using it, but it gets boring with time.

Just look at Steve Vai. He fucking BOmbed the whammy bar with Passion & Warfare, now i barely ever see him use it.

yeah, very easy, see these tuners don't use a screw to hold themselves from turning like most other tuners, instead they use a little pin that sticks out like 4 or 5 mm, so you have to drill a little pilot hole for em.

you've gotta love using a whammy to twang notes. i could legato and twang all day.

Subtle bar use can really improve your playing, but some people do abuse it. Perfect example of a great bar user is Romeo. He's not dive-bombing left and right, but he's using it effectively in every solo.

I have a hardtail Ibanez RG right now, and it is convenient as all hell, but I miss the bar. I've been using my Strat more and more lately for this reason. That and because Strats are fucking sweet.
