What a fucking crazy year for metal, my list has changed quite a bit again... there's tons of great stuff that would never make it onto a top 10 list which is a shame.

Altar of Plagues - White Tomb
Cobalt - Gin
Diocletian - Doom Cult
Ignivomous - Death Transmutation
Katharsis - Fourth Reich
Procession - Cult of Disease
Skagos - Ast
Shackles - Traitors' Gate
Teitanblood - Seven Chalices
While Heaven Wept - Vast Oceans Lachrymose

Ares Kingdom isn't out yet, but I suspect this would take the spot of something once it does.

Ones that will surely be on the top:

Revelation - For the Sake of No One
Griftegard - Solemn, Sacred, Severe

There has been a lot of great albums this year, but I don't think anything is phenomenal besides the two above.

I still have a lot to digest even from what I've already purchased, and there are still tons of albums that I haven't even gotten yet (and as Vittra mentioned, some, like the Ares Kingdom, aren't even out yet), but this is what I came up with:

1. Beherit - Engram
2. The Chasm - Farseeing the Paranormal Abysm
3. Asphyx - Death...The Brutal Way
4. Master's Hammer - Mantras
5. Grave Miasma - Exalted Emanation
6. Ignivomous - Death Transmutation
7. Teitanblood - Seven Chalices
8. Procession - The Cult of Disease
9. Argus - Argus
10. Excoriate - On Pestilent Winds...

Albums that I think might have a chance to crack the top 10 are many...like Griftegard, Slugathor, Revelation, Ares Kingdom, Infinitum Obscure, Memory Driven, Diocletian, Spiritus Mortis, Weapon, Denial, etc.

A bunch of hipster shit.

....though something tells me I should hear this Cobalt album. I love gin in all its forms.

maudlin of the Well - Part The Second
Darren Johnston - The Edge Of The Forest
Keelhaul - Keelhaul's Triumphant Return To Obscurity
DM Stith - Heavy Ghost
Uri Gurvich - The Storyteller
Griftegard - Solemn.Sacred.Severe.
Wobbler - Afterglow
Vijay Iyer - Historicity
Mastodon - Crack the Skye
Umphrey's McGee - Mantis

...as of now, i guess.

maudlin of the Well - Part The Second

Unquestionably #1.

DM Stith - Heavy Ghost

Bought this for like $2.00 a few months ago at Amoeba. Maybe I should listen to it.

I have to say, I find the latest Grizzly Bear to be pretty damn spectacular. They're really onto something new and different, and I like it. Hated it on the first couple of listens though.

A local band I really dig is Thee Oh Sees. Their album Help is weird-ass psyched-out garage rock that is oddly infectious. Oh, and it sounds exactly like the cover art:
