Is Opeth - Orchid considered Prog Metal?

If so that would probably top my list.

I'd probably say Opeth didn't hit prog until MAYH. Even then the proggiest album is probably Ghost Reveries, but I'm guessing thats gonna get a lot of hate here. I'd probably go with Still Life for being pretty much perfect prog metal.

1. Atrox - "Terrestrials"
2. Atrox - "Orgasm"
3. Madder Mortem - "Desiderata"
4. Atrox - "Contentum"
5. Voivod - "Nothingface"
6. Mekong Delta - "The Music Of Erich Zann"
7. Sieges Even - "Steps" (it's at least metal-related)
8. Fates Warning - "Awaken The Guardian"
9. Psychotic Waltz - "A Social Grace"
10. Voivod - "Dimension Hatröss"

Going to give this a bump since there are so few topics on progressive metal on this board. Anyways, since I can't bear to cut one of these albums:

1. Queensryche - Promised Land
2. Vauxdvihl - To Dimension Logic
3. Fates Warning - A Pleasant Shade of Grey
4. Atheist - Elements
5. Dodheimsgard - 666 International
6. Dream Theater - When Dream and Day Unite
7. Spiral Architect - A Sceptic's Universe
8. Gordian Knot - Emergent
9. Psychotic Waltz - A Social Grace
10. Symphony X - V
11. Crimson Glory - Transcendence

Into the Everflow is the best Psychotic Waltz's album IMO.

Any Pain of Salvation (except Scarsick. I enjoy it a lot, but they get away from their progressive sound a lot.) Any Opeth album after Morningris, though I haven't heard My Amrs Your Hearse. You could always look into the quintessential metal band, Dream Theater.

Another band I didn't see mentioned (I skimmed through the thread) is Between the Buried and Me. Their newest album Colors is AMAZING.

Symphony X - The Odyssey
Fates Warning - Awaken the Guardian
Disillusion - Back to Times of Splendor
Cynic - Traced in Air (Liked it better than Focus)
Seventh Wonder - Mercy Falls
Between the Buried and Me - Colors
Watchtower - Controll & Resistance
Pagans Mind - Celestial Entrance
Ansur - Warring Factions
Atheist - Elements

These guys may be a stretch but I really dig them as well:
Tyr - Eric the Red
Angra - Temple of Shadows
Crimson Glory - Transcendence

No idea why people like the bolded albums as much as they do. Especially Elements.

I really loved Elements when I first got it, but it's lost its appeal to me. When I first listened to it, one of the big things helping it for me was that every song sounded just like the concept it was based on, but now I can't hear any similarity.
