Top 5 essential death metal albums

Sounds like its time to check out The Chasm.

Here's some random albums that rule.

Suffocation-Effigy of the Forgotten
Decapitated-Winds of Creation
Anata-Under a Stone with No Inscription
Pestilence-Testimony of the Ancients
Vital Remains-Dechristianize

For some reason Bloodbath doesn't spring to mind when I think death metal, despite the fact that they rule. Just something different about them.

The Chasm rule, but for some reason a lot of folks didn't like Deathcult. I'll admit it's not my favorite, but it's still pretty good.

For ME, I'd say:

Crimson Thorn - Unearthed
Obituary - Slowly We Rot
Death - Scream Bloody Gore
Malevolent Creation - Stillborn
Six Feet Under - Haunted

Though five isn't nearly enough to cover all the bases.

If I were recommending a well-rounded group to others:

Death - Leprosy
Obituary - Cause of Death
In Flames - The Jester Race
Nile - Annihilation of the Wicked
Opeth - My Arms, Your Hearse
