Bass

I dont really know, what makes a good bass player? Anyone who plays for the song and can lay down a great groove wins :D

Drums

Dave Lombardo is number one. Daylight second :)

I haven't got time to do this right now, but nobody bloody mentioned Gene Hoglan!! He's the best drummer I've ever seen.

Gene Hoglan from Death, Dark Angel, Strapping Young Lad... errr... some black metal band... a few more...

He's basically in the same league as Dave Lombardo and Paul Bostaph... being a very very good thrash metal drummer.

Hellhammer is faster... :p

But is he as fast all over the kit....hey hey hey??? :) When I saw SYL in 1999 or thereabouts I finally saw how he played all that stuff. Even when it songs like he's just hitting the kit as fast as he can, his hands are all over the place (not sloppy, just using the whole kit at lightning speed). My favourite drumming of his is on Death's Symbolic album.

Yeah I like his Death work the most.

Hellhammer has the fastest arms I have seen. His legs are fast, but Gene is pretty good down there also.

Different styles too.

But I just like the drum roll in Mayhem's A Time To Die. That is fast.

I have a few albums that he plays drums on, he is definitely very good, but one listen to Fall Of Sipledome from The Gathering puts him and every other drummer ever back where they belong, below Daves greatness :) :worship:

If you ever want a bible for thrash drumming, buy The Gathering :worship:
