Total Recall (2012)

Ridiculous argument but worth having for clarification. Total Recall is an action movie. Predator is an action movie.

No one will think less of you for admitting to like science fiction. It's ok.

I'd say the genre of total recall can be pretty much either, action/sci fi seems a good way to put it. i'm a huge sci fi geek so i'm not afraid to call it sci fi, but with the over the top action and overall feel it'd be crazy to call it just sci fi or considering all the space/tech/etc it'd be crazy just to call it action.

i'd say true sci fi that has a similar dilemma to this would be starship troopers. there is a lot of action and whatnot but the main point really is the plot/environment/characters and the action ties the story of the humans vs bugs together. with total recall the movie its a lot about arnold just kicking ass and getting back at those who wronged him, with the sci fi being the setting and secondary part.

in the end it doesn't matter though, total recall kicks ass, the book kicks ass and the remake will lick ass.

ok, now I'll go and look up a bunch of websites that claim those are action movies. has it occurred to you that they could be both, or be one with elements of the other? most movies are classified as action, drama, comedy, horror. those are the main genres. Predator is a straight up action movie but because it has an alien it has a sci fi element. Predator is an action/sci fi movie where a movie like Moon is a drama/sci fi movie. but the point is that they're both more action and drama than sci fi. it's just a sub category.

Say what you want about remakes in general, but this does have potential (whether or not it lives up to your childhood nostalgia).

maybe, the rest of the cast is pretty good, but colin ferrel doesnt have action hero charisma

Same thing was said about Matt Damon until people actually saw the first Bourne movie. I'm not disagreeing though, but I'm still going to give him a chance. He did a pretty good job in Fright Night with a different kind of role for him, so we'll see.

Cranston, though. He is fucking ace. I'd watch him just sitting in his house eating oatmeal.
yeh, he has me more interested than any other aspect of this. kate seems like an improvement over sharon stone, biel is super hot, but im having trouble picturing her kicking ass like the first melina. and who could be the more menacing pursuer than ironside as rictor?! i guess we'll wait and see.

from the imdb trivia:

"Tom Hardy and Michael Fassbender were considered for the role of Quaid. "

...and they went with colin farrell :err:
