Illumination is a great album. In this album I get feelings of Therion, modern-Tiamat, After Forever, and Epica. And of course, the other bands they are often compared with, or that their band members are in.

I just really love this album. All the songs feel distinct to me, and they do a neat mix of clean male vocals, operatic female, and male growls. The songs are often atmospheric but rarely lack in pace. This is just a small review, but it receives my highest recommendation. It will most likely be on my top 10 of 2007 list, but no promises ;)

I'm not too familiar with the band, but they're on my list to check out sometime.

Vibeke Stene just quit Tristania. People on blabbercrap are saying she's going to replace Tarja in Nightwish. I think that would be stupid. Vibeke does not have the energy to be in Nightwish. Nightwish needs someone upbeat and insanely energetic!

TRISTANIA Parts Ways With Singer, Seeks Replacement - Feb. 28, 2007 Norwegian symphonic metal band TRISTANIA has issued the following update:

"TRISTANIA is sorry to announce that Vibeke [Stene, vocals] has decided to leave the band due to personal reasons. The band regrets this fact, but respect her decision and wish her all the best in the future.

"TRISTANIA is now looking to find a new female singer, as they are anxious to start touring and promoting the new album." Please send demos, along with a recent photograph, to:

TRISTANIA's new album, "Illumination", was released in January via SPV. The CD was recorded at Woodhouse Studios in Hagen, Germany with producer Waldemar Sorychta (LACUNA COIL, TIAMAT, GRIP INC.).

The band had previously stated about the CD, "True to tradition, we have made an album with a definite and unmistakably Tristanian sound, but which also brings a lot of new and fresh material. The album is another evolutionary step and lets us explore new areas while staying true to our roots. On every track, the moods and elements are plentiful; ranging from doom to industrial, from soothing synthesizer passages to technical metal riffs, from dark ballads to classic goth rock — it's all there. We've used a string quartet on several tracks, which attributed yet another dimension to those songs."

Remember, they are not going to find a "2nd Tarja".
I like Vibeke. And if she was to be the next Nightwish singer, I would be more than happy. She has a great voice, and is an amazing singer.

It sounds like you don't really know who Vibeke is. I don't think you've ever seen her perform, especially lately. She's a KILLER frontwoman and her voice is just plain beautiful. She'd be a great replacement for Tarja, who can do NOTHING but operatic vocals. She's great at what she does, yes, but she can only do that well imo.

Vibeke is one of the singers I know of that I could picture enjoying in front of the boys. A shame she just left Tristania. Her voice is pretty much the reason I listen to them.

Sirenia also released their album recently (23rd or something). This album just ... I don't know what to think. The growls are mostly gone, which is okay, because lots of people were doing that now anyhow. At points this albums feels very close to mid-era Therion. Also has an Epica feel, at least without the growls. So yeah it can be compared to a lot. Some neat choruses, I don't know. I think I love it. But its different than the older stuff. Ugh. Oddly I really hated that video they had out for the 'single.' Check it out! ;)

Did I mention yet that Tristania and/or Sirenia should be at ProgPower some year?
