It's such a pity that this true or not true thing is now in BM too. We get used to the fact that the ppl talk about true metal when they hear Manowar or Hammerfall, but why should every metal band care about this? It's the music...the one and only...

The true and not true black metal Satyricon are referring is not symphonic black metal. It is christian band's playing black metal, thats they meaning with not true black metal.

True Black Metal does not have blastbeats, that is Norsecore...many bands have gone Norsecore in the recent years...trendies.
Also there was no inner circle that was just Kerrang propoganda that most people bought.
Anyways everyone talks about 90's black metal which is only the second wave. Original black metal was Sarcofago, Pentagram, Venom, Bathory, Sodom, Mercyful Fate...those bands are THE guidelines for black metal...unfortunately most of them sold out later on and became gay.

First of all, they probably mean NORWEGIAN Black metal. Black Metal has traditional guidelines that it must contend with the Satanic occult and although dimmu and cradle do, it doesn't have that traditional black brethren tyrannical style that bands like Satyricon, Dark Throne etc claim to have. Although their claims are really a load of shit. I mean, what the fuck would you call Cradle and Dimmu of not Black metal? They fit into the category almost perfectly except for that same "original" style. But who the fuck wants to be "original"? Isn't that the whole fuckin point.......to be UNIQUE in every way possible and yet still kick ass? Cradle and Dimmu ARE Black Metal regardless of that bullshit. That's the only way bands like Satyricon and DT can actually sell records. To a loyal audience. Personally I think Satyricon kicks ass aswell as Dimmu, but keep in mind, Black metal is about anything but peace. So don't expect it between bands. There are no friends through the eyes of evil. Simply allies and enemies of war. It's a way of testing the water.......as demons, the minute we smell blood, we're on it like a pack of fuckin wolves.......let it be stranger or sibling. Soon black metal will even move from the more traditional "Satanic regime" to a demonic ultimatum regime once the world is overthrown by its young yet growing armies. Look at bands like Mayhem, who supposedly started black metal...Death fuckin blew his brains out with a shotgun blast in his room and while another member stumbled in afterwards and saw his bandmember's brains strewn around the room, instead of calling the police he went to the nearest photoshop and got a fuckin disposable camera and took pics for the bands next album cover. Then another member stabbed HIS ass over 40 times in the back in a bloody rage because he was jealous of the cool pics. THAT's BLACK METAL. LOL. Simply put, aside from all traditional measurements, yes Black metal is currently Satanic, but that may be only temporary. Satanic regiments are included for their qualities against righteousness. In laimans terms: Black Metal is wicked and basically can be anything that represents EVIL in it's purest conceivable form.
Lots of things seperate Dimmu and Cradle...cheesy 80's horror keyboards, non black metal riffs, and BLASTBEATS. There we go.
Now as for Satanic...living in the past...musically black metal is black metal lyrically TRUE black metal is reserved for satanism but many people are stepping out of these guidelines and singing about other stuff.
