hey

Does anyone know how many tubes the old Marshall valvestate vs100 has? (the older model not the new one).

thanks for your time

Ok - I'm a complete dummy when it comes to these things, and I tried to understand it, but was never able to. So can someone explain to me the difference between tube amps and the ...non tubes, and practically everything that was mentioned in this thread.

Thanks.

I'd actually like to know some stuff about tube amps too. All I know is that they sound good  (I've played Mesa Boogies and a couple Vox amps in stores)

Mmmm not to sure how to start this discusion but it is to do with even and odd harmonics, Valve's / Tube's reproduce even one's and trannies reproduce odd ones, nasty irritating and they cause "Listener Fatigue."

Try reading this article tis a bit techy and long winded imo...

Here is web-site with pdf downloads about Guitar Amps...

Everything else to do with audio electronics and stuff, loads of links, indulge yourselves...

tube amps have a more organic feel, sound and response to them...true overdriven/distortions come from overdriven vaccum tubes in guitar amps which are very old school in nature....vaccum tubes used to be used in about everything until the transistor and ic came out...about the only thing they're used in now is guitar tube amps so the manufacture and quality is not nearly as good as in the old days but they still reign supreme in good sounding guitar amps!!!!
