Hey Granddad what the hell are you doing in a metal forum?
So when were you born?

No indeed your not. Must beinteresting to recollect some memories from the 70s to the 80s together being from the same generation :)

Do you remember what happend after the 1977 punk explosion? I alway's had the idea that hard rock and metal were more or less saved by the very few bands that kept the hard rock/metal banner flying.

In particular Judas Priest, UFO, Thin Lizzy, Rush, Moxy, Triumph and Scorpions. Although there were other bands during that period they were in a severe dip during that period ['77/78/79].

Only when the NWOBHM emerged did hard rock and metal regain it's populairity again. What do you think?

Yeah I remember punk alright, I didn't mind it too much and I saw several bands, the main problem as I recall was that, aside from already established acts (such as you mention), it was very difficult for upcoming metal bands to get gigs - apart from Motorhead who everybody seemed to like.

Unfortunately I got married in '79 and that was me done financially as far as buying albums was concerned up until about 83-4. Thus I missed most of the NWOBHM until my brother introduced me to Iron Maiden, Saxon etc.

I always thought that punk and metal "made up" and gave birth to Thrash myself, plus other stuff like Atom God (tho' they never did anything they had the punk style vox).

I find the worst part about remembering the "old days" is the number of "dead guys" I've seen play, that gets a bit worrying.

Look at me I'm shaking, you're barely 9 years older than me. If my mother hadn't her pregnancy problems (so I was told) I would have born in '57 too.

I may have flowers, but they smell better than the Stilton band you hear (aka Manocheese :p )
