I found a ridiculous deal on a used Focusrite Saffire Pro 40 and I want to know if would be a noticeable upgrade from an old Firepod. I have three Firepods and while I can't complain too much about the sound quality, I've heard the A/D and D/A converters on the Saffire are a lot nicer than the ones on the Firepod. The thing that's driving me nuts about this right now is the fact that I don't have anything to compare to the Firepod so I can't exactly hear for myself if there really is any difference in sound quality.

I have three Firepods at the moment; two are in my rack at home and the other is up at my band's practice space so we can record demos as we write songs. The Saffire (plus an adat mic preamp) would replace the two at home. I'm mostly using that setup to record drums for other bands. I use 12-14 inputs at a time.

I could probably sell two of my Firepods and it would pay for the Saffire in full plus I'd have a little left to put towards a decent 8-channel adat preamp.
