So my mom gave up on Christmas and handed me and my bro a wad of cash.
I was told not to spend it on Groceries, Rent, or anything not fun.

So, I'm upgrading my PC.
My friend who usually deals with this shit is gone for holidays, and I want to take advantage of any Boxing Day Prices.

So here are my specs.
2gb Ram
AMD Athalon +3200 2.16ghz
GeForce 6800 GS.
Unknown Mobo, Asus, I'm told its good still.

I'd like to get a decent Gfx card and some RAM while I'm at it. So basically, I want Fallout3 to not look like Stalker, but I don't need to run it at max settings.

Card Suggestions? My Budget is $200, I can't spend more than that, but the less I spend the better.

P.S. Completely unrelated, my computer now and then is making *chug chug chug* noises, for about 10 seconds straight, then it stops. Happens randomly. Perhaps its excited?

As far as cards i have the GeForce 9400 GT 512MB 128-bit GDDR2 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP it's only around $70 now here. Ram, check out the TWIN2X2048-6400 Corsair 2GB Kit, I got it for $46. BUT if you're going to get a faster ram like the Pc6400 (the higher the # the faster it runs info.) Make sure the MOBO will handle the faster one. That tid bit of information was taken off of Yahoo answers. YahoooooOooo!
Here is an ILL processer.

AMD Athlon 64 X2 6000+ Dual-Core CPU It will increase speed and performance of your whole rig, but it's just a suggestion because it will run you ver $200 since you will need the heat sick/fan and a mother board that's compatible.

I'm the only one out of all my friends who only knows almost nothing about computers, so a lot of this information is from the true geeks of Long Island.

That's a double negative, Alexis. Unless you meant that which i highly doubt. lawl

On topic: He can't do anything DRASTIC with a budget under $200 but he sure can make Fallout run smoother, look smoother. Like whiskey!
The only con about the Nvidia card is the fan noise, it needs one hell of a fan and you'll hear it.

I bet you are right, you may be right, but here in México you can't do nothing with 200 dollars XD, here the hardware is more expensive, a 80 gb hd here costs around 50 dollars :S.

My 80gb HD was like $25, 2 years ago
And yeah, just want smoother running.

A complete other option is fuck the PC and get a Wii, but I'm a souless bastard who likes to pirate games.

Hookers.

It's the only option.

I mentioned this, she said I can either get a decent hooker, or a cheap hooker and enough coke to make her seem like an expensive one.

So my freind is back and he is telling me 9800gt is the way to go (I think)
Should cost me like $120, and that will be it.

So when in the store to buy one, we asked if there were any left and the clerk goes "...why?"
You should get the ATI blahblagh, the benchmarks are way better! Its about $210!.

It started a nerd battle with my friend, and they begun an argument in the store.
It was lulz.

Dont go for ATI man, ive had both brands, and ATI is more unstable and buggy in games. Go for the NVidia card

This was brought up in the Geek battle, almost ended in tears. My friend was just ending with something like "We get it, the card that is $100 more than the one we want...will run better. I would expect it to run better since it costs $100 more. We aren't spending $100 more, so we are going for the one that isn't $100 more...."

"welll...*farts*....it wont run as good..."

"That's probably why it costs $100 less..."

"..yeah..."

It was seriously lulz - me and my dad had to step back from it - but its the main reason I never go into stores like that alone.

Either way, I'm excited to only be spending like $120 and have plenty left over for new years boozin'.

I'm probably going to re-play Oblivion, just so I can play the game...and 0mg see the grass :O

People who work at these places give you suggestions so you SPEND MORE MONEY. ATI is also Canadian :( .........i'm a fan of 3Com though.
