Used Car vs Cheap New Car - I need something inexpensive

Depends on the car ... the MINI I bought last year actually did not lose any value at all in one year. I can basically get my money back.
JK ... the used car market is really good now, you should be able to get good deals out there.
HOWEVER ...
The MINI was my first new car purchase and I was like most here ... NEVER BUY A NEW CAR mentality ... but on the average for the previous 3 years I was sinking in over $200 a month in repairs on my previous used cars so making a $350 a month loan payment made sense and saved my sanity in dealing with breakdowns and unreliability.
I even have 3/36 maintenance free ... oil change, brakes all that shit is free ... so all I have to pay is the loan monthly
If I were you and had $5000 cash to blow, I would get a Scion for $13K and change ... finance it ... put a grand down then pay it off slowly ... even if you use it for 2-3 years ... you'll probably get close to your money back. Why fork out $5K off the bat on some used car that you don't know where it's been?
The only reason I would stay away from a used car, is that no matter how good it looks and sounds ... it is still used and anything can happen at anytime to it ... the more you are willing to spend on a used car ... the more it makes sense to get a new one.

Dude, that is not a bad idea at all. See, I would definitely not need this car forever, and if Bush wins, I'll seriously consider leaving (provided Blair is thrown out also). No, Geo is GM. However the Toyota Corolla used to be rebaged a Geo... something (forget the name). Toyota and GM share a plant in Fremont, California.
Geo is gone now, they are all under the Chevy name now. The Tracker is built by Suzuki, and I think that's the last of the Geo holdovers... I think.

My sister's husband has the greatest fucking car, a 1987 (I think) Jeep CJ7 Renegade which he babies like nothing else, so it's basically like new but with all sorts of things on it and it definitely rules. Makes me want to have a heterosexual car like that if I ever live somewhere where it might come in handy... They actually DO go offroading with it sometimes
