Using 2.5" hard drive for recording

Why don't you just buy a proper hard drive and stick it in an enclosure? I've found them to be more reliable and it'll likely come out cheaper...

I'd stay far away from Lacie drives of the bigger capacities, unless they've reworked them. I've got one from 3-4 years ago, a 500gig. It's really just two 250gig HDD's in a RAID 0 format, which is incredibly unreliable. If one fails even just a tiny bit, the whole thing is fucked!

HDD capacities are much higher these days, though, so the 500gig LaCies should be a single HDD.

The LaCie d2 and Porsche drives are unreliable due to the enclosure's FW bridge. There have been so many reports of this without any action from LaCie it's stupid.

You can remove the disk from the LaCie enclosure and put it in another enclosure and it should work fine. Drives with the Triple Interface usually continue to work via USB after the FW bridge has failed.
