Is anyone else utterly amazed at how these guys have kept it together for so long without a SINGLE lineup change? I can't think of any other band to accomplish a feat as such.

Also, their new cd is really good.

A few months back, another forum I'm on tried to think of bands that haven't ever had any lineup changes. The only ones we could think of were Vanden Plas, Gojira and Moonsorrow. A lot of bands that have only had one or two changes over a long career, but those three were the only ones we could think of that haven't had any.

Hah my brother and I tried doing that as well. All I could come up with was ZZ Top

LOL

Considering that they don't really tour, is it that much of a surprise?

Vanden Plas may not tour much, and may take their time between releases, but the VP machine is incredible. One of the biggest reasons they are so much on top of their game is because they have been together so long. Each member knows each other so well that they can play to each other's strengths.

I stopped keeping track of Vanden Plas after the live album...but The Colour Temple, The God Thing, Far Off Grace and Beyond Daylight are great albums, with The God Thing being my favorite. Spinning that one today after a couple years without hearing it...so good.

Are Christ-O and The Seraphic Clockwork comparable?

Nope. They are BETTER. :loco:

In all honestly, yes, they are very similar, but the songwriting and overall SOUND has been stepped up even further.

Really? I always thought the writing and arranging on the VP albums was very good already.

I have heard that these 2 albums are more symphonic and "epic" than the ones before it...is that the case?

Beyond Daylight, Christ 0 and The Seraphic Clockwork all deserve at least a 9 out of 10. These three albums are fantastic. I am really looking forward to seeing Vanden Plas live.

Yes, that is accurate. They still retain the core VP sound, but tend to take a more patient approach to the songwriting.

Simply put, if you like the early stuff, these are absolute MUST OWN discs.
