I'd like to know if any of you got lucky using a VIA chipset rather than a TI. Does downgrading to the legacy driver help?

Non-Focusrite users preferred.

Thanks!

I've tried using a Profire 2626 and Digi 002 - neither would work correctly with anything other than a TI chipset. Sometimes I could get it stable for an hour or two by playing around with settings, but it would always eventually crash. TI firewire cards are cheap. You will save a lot of time and frustration by just getting one now.

I tried 3 chipsets. Two VIAs and a TI. All works equal the same. At least as I could see. Now I'm using the onboard VIA chip. I own an Asus IV Formula and a Focusrite Saffire Pro 24. I tried the legacy and the newer drivers with the latest drivers from Focusrite. Didn't see difference between them.

If someone really get lower latencies or better performance tell us 'cause it will help to get a better performance.

:)

My story:

Worked flawlessly with the Firepod and with the FF400.
At home I'm using my intern slot from my Gigabyte, it's imo TI, works also flawlessly(but same latency, so, no increase of performance).

I think that if it works from the start you'll be set with a VIA in the same way as with TI. I own my VIA for years and never had a problem.
Atleast overhere it's quite difficult to get a TI in a store(you have to order it) but you get a VIA for 10 bucks at every corner. TI is much more expensive.

Everyone recommends TI but atleast here VIA works.

This exactly. I wasted a bunch of money and SO MUCH time by not buying a digidesign certified card.
