Viking Metal

Moonsorrow is great; over the top and theatrical but real honest, too.

Windir is another great band that doesn't get many mentions - fast, speedy melodic black metal that's sometimes epic and sometimes thrashy. som great Burzum-ish use of electronics one some songs too. recommend starting with 1184 and then get Likferd and Arntor.

There;'s also Thyrfing and Falkenbach too, but I'm not a huge fan...

^Only Immortal album i really love is Sons of Northern Darkness, and i love it with a passion, everything came together for them on that album, the rest of their stuff is just ok

Bathory
Enslaved

Mithotyn
Manegarm
Allegiance

Bathory is good, nothing that makes my head spin but they have some really cool songs. Enslaved is obviously fucking amazing, and Amon Amarth is crappy, uninspired half-assed melodeath, silly band.

Agree. Bathory is really an excellent band, in that, Quorthons passion is unmatched, imo. Amon Amarth are just poser Vikings. Enslaved, well their Enslaved. Period.:heh:

Why people continue to talk about Bathory in plural ? It was a one man project.

And stylistically, Immortal completely took the epic bathory sound and played Bathory music with better production and instrumentation.
Without Bathory, they just wouldn't be an Immortal.

What about Manowar ?

Talk about epic songwriting.
