Hi!!

We've started working on vocal lines for the first official Dandelium's demo with the full line up and singer and all that stuff.

So I'd like some feedback on how this singer fits the band in your opinion.

Don't expect any lyrics, just "nanana" as we were just laying down some melodies.
It's not even mixed properly but I'm impatient :D

Quick recorded at home with AKG D3800 mic, Line6 Toneport UX1 (POD Farm, dual setting for stereo delay). Panned, compressed to hell and back and autotuned.

BTW: I'm going to record my own voice in the part starting in 02:14, clean voice ala Scar Symmetry just to keep the song fresh.

The point of this thread is to know if my singer's voice fits the music, and of course, if you like the song :p
It's our most commercial song of course :D

Best wishes!!

It is so hard to say man. Your stuff is always good though, so if you think that it sounds good it probably does.

Awesome Erik!! Exactly what I listen to. :-) I think the melody could be a bit catchier in the beginning, more breathy (preference), maybe a bit more of a break between the nanana's but all in all a little catchier. (but again all preference)
But after 1st verse from 1:40 on PERFECT chorus is awesome!!

I don't like the tonality of her voice... it sounds too much like something you would hear on American radio... very pop-ish... me no likey...

the nanana is killing me...

I'm kinda hoping it will sound better with lyrics... cause now it sounds generic... and the music is REALLY good... except for the piano part in the beginning... sounds like you're beating on the keys... there's no dynamics/feeling in it...

personal preference, of course...

I like the quality of vocal records.
And... Oh my god.
Can you explain me how you make your Tone Port sounds like this please ?O.O
I have a PODxt with POD Farm and I don't know how to have a real metal sound.
And what VST or keyboards did you use for strings ? O.O

Sorry for my english I'm french :p

Personally, I really like your singer's voice .
The vocal melodies are ok I guess, I particularly like the harmony parts.

Also, I agree with AudioPhile about the piano intro.

Hi!!

Thank you all very much for the input, very hepful ;)
I was thinking maybe I should remove the piano part, now it's definitely going and will leave the strings only, in fade in.
I do like my singer's voice, it's just what we were looking for (this is our softest song, so, she may sound poppy here :p).
Too bad I suck as a lyricst, and I have the best english skills in my band, so I have to do the lyrics anyways and they will suck...

And no, I didn't use the Gearbox for guitars, only for bass and vocals. Guitars are Revalver MKIII with GuitarHack's "ThisOne.wav" and some major mid cuts.

I think I will take the chorus part at 03:00 and will leave only one voice layer, not so overdubbed, to relax the overall sound.

Thanks again for the input!!
Best wishes.
-Erik

EDIT: I used EWQLSO Gold for the strings. Best software around for this task ;)

Bloody hell mate, that stuff is ace! My only grief is, it's clipping like a bitch.

It sounds much better than the last version. I just see some fighting between the vocal lines and the orchestra at the first verse, but great tune as always.

na na na :P

awesome voice though; suits the music perfectly.. very good singer! my compliments.

Sounds cool.

If none of you guys are superawesomeuber1337 at English why not use your own language?

Spanish modern symphonic metal? It sounds terrible, a couple of local bands do it and it can be the music, the singer or the lyrics, but it sounds just horrible.
And anyways I'm used to hear my music in English...

Is it clipping? I limited the master bus at -0.5dB and the RMS is about -9. I don't know, maybe it's clipping but it shouldn't.

Cheers!

Here's my opinion.. you may not like it:P
I like like the piano part ! You're just using wrong velocities and samples :P it sounds to thin and artificial.. I would do more reverb and softer velocities on the chords(maybe even try to step down an octave on them).. and start the cello/string envelope at the same moment at the piano at a very low volume and fading in..
Overall I like the song, but personally I don't think the verses are so impressive and the chorus-guitar riff is a little boring.. Edit: I like it better today ;)
Your vocalist is good and she definately breaths some life into this song ;)

and awesome strings ;)
