Vocal troubles - anyone have any clips?

I recently recorded a Pop Punk band and although the singer was good, he had bad range, he would sing alot quiter during verses and raise it in the chorus, this made it difficult for me to get a good level, i told him about the problem but he still didn't perform, does any1 have any tips on how to resolve this problem as i ended up with alot clips :/

Tell him to back up from the mic when singing choruses. Other than that, it's compression while tracking.
