Vortex Appreciation Thread

i'm tired of hearing about this guy almost constantly, i'm tempted to actually take the time and listen to him but i don't like borknagar or diimmu borgir really so i don't see the point.

Honestly you're missing out, Borknagar is awesome but if you don't like them you're still losing out on Arcturus and Lamented Souls, two incredibly underrated bands.

Quintessence by Borknagar is required material for anyone interested the heterosexual lifestyle. Album flat out RULES.

I wouldn't say he's the greatest ever, but he's one of them. His range is amazing and his voice is completely unique and insanely epic. That's the most important part. Whenever he sings it's like he's leading the entire Norwegian army running full speed into battle with swords blazing ready to conquer all.

He single-handedly made Dimmu Borgir interesting for me. Every album he's performed on has been perfect. Basically, Vortex is the fucking man and I'm putting on Quintessence right now.

True. And it makes me so mad sometimes. I was excited as fuck for the new Code album and then they just announce he's not going to be on it... my heart broke a little. I got a very sick pit in my stomach, mostly because I had been anticipating it for months. But supposedly he is gonna sing a track or two on the next Borknagar CD and Lamented Souls is releasing a new album in later this year so we'll see.
 
I listened to this album numerous times the very first time I ever did a psychedelic drug. It will always have a special place in my heart.

It's a hard call. Vintersorg is a great vocalist as well and they have made some realyl cool music with them. I'd say their best work has been done with Vintersorg, but my favourite stuff is with Simen, if that makes sense. I think Simen is a better singer though. It's the same case with Arcturus. They made better songs with Garm, but I prefer the stuff they made with Simen and feel is is clearly the better singer, if I listen to Arcturus I will listen to the live stuff which Simen sings most of the time.

Andreas (Vintersorg) is fucking badass too, but sometimes he really ruins music with his vocals when he goes too experimental. Live his clean voice is half and half, if can be great and it can flat out be shit, but his harsh vocals live are always flawless. I love Garm when he does his high pitched singing, I HATE his fucking baritone opera shit, it really sucks imo. SEE: Master of Disguise.

Those are the two Borknagar videos. I would recommend the Worchester show first as it has a much better sound quality.
