green carnations first two albums aren't trash, especially "light of day..." i don't like the rest of the albums too much, but they aren't as bad as the stuff by peccatum (esp. the first three albums), virgin black, winds and crisis. i rarely listen to green carnation nowadays, though.

actually, if i recall...enslaved wasnt JUST distributed by the end...technically they were SIGNED to the end as their US label, as osmose had no distribution for them here. i dont recall the end records ever putting their name on cd inserts of albums they didnt actually sign the band for.

and no...peccatum is really fucking terrible. please fucking stop that.

Im pretty sure that Enslaved were never a TER rostered band. I guess we'll just agree to disagree :)

..... as for Peccatum... well, remember Marty McFly creeping into George's room in 1955, blasting Van Halen on him? Well, watch out... one night you're going to succumb to Peccatum :kickass:

my top10 out of the list:

1. Agalloch
2. Ulver (but very close to #1 spot)
3. Novembers Doom
4. Green Carnation
5. Frantic Bleep
6. Dissection
7. Sigh
8. The Gathering
9. Winds
10. Voivod

as long as youre wearing a big yellow moon-suit...it may just due the trick.

but for the record, im sitting here looking at the back of my "below the lights" CD where it has "The End Records" stamped on the back insert.

Okay, I'm listening to Agalloch right now. Sounds like a doom-black metal combo or some other random stupid genre combination. Not bad at all, however they don't sound that unique imo. Perhaps I just need to listen to more of their songs. I will listen to Ulver later.

Kveldssanger is their most accessible record, and is a good place to start

Holy crap, I just listened to Perdition City, it was horrible imo. Then I listened to Kveldssanger and it was 10000X better. I really like the atmosphere on that one.

I'm also listening to Nattens Madrigal from hearing about it from that stupid album cover thread. I hate the production, simply put. I really like the acoustic parts, though.

I just hope this goofy "techno" metal bullcrap or whatever it is isn't on all of their later albums, I hate it. :erk:

So far I like Agalloch way better.

christ. check out teachings in silence if you want some awesome, straight-forward, and energetic folk-metal with no techno, static sounds, or minimalism at all. :Spin:

ftlog!
seriously, listen to Bergtatt if you liked Kveldssanger. Came out in '94 and shares some similarities to Orchid imo.

edit: there is only one acoustic part on Nattens iirc the first track. you won't like that album.

lol @ 'techno' and 'metal' being used to describe modern ulver, you're pitifully ignorant tubbs, and I say that without any internet aggrandizing, you're just plain ignorant

Actually I think just describing the guy as "young" is adequate. And I dont just mean physically young.
