Wanna mix a great Bon Jovi style band. Files inside.

Hello. Here my mix from this cool song. I used the original guitar tracks here (=no reamping), added some of my own (self recorded) drum samples to the kit to make the snare more punchy. Listened "Appetite for Destruction" little bit before commencing the mix :p

The bass was really troublesome here. I actually ended up using only the DI since I couldn't get the amp and DI signal work together.

The vocals on the other hand were great here, I did comparably little to them.

Then some comments to other people's mixes...

great song! great vocalist!

my half-finished, best randy staub imitation i could come up with in about 2.5 hours: https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/13121955/war_v0.5.mp3
no toms yet, and no automation (really important in this song imho), no delays on vocals etc.
just the basic sound i had in my head when i heard the raw tracks.
the vocalist ist really good, but it sounds like you overdid it with the de-esser on the way in. on some S-sounds, i can really hear strong artifacts in the high end, that takes away from the performance, imho.

this was great fun so far, let me hear what you think :)

Sounds really good overall!

Occasionally I feel that the low end gets little bit stuffed (especially during those instrumental breakdowns), but I guess that part of the Staub sound too.

I felt the vocals sounded great at the verses but I felt the esses started to come through too much during the choruses. To me it sounds like the extra amount of the esses seem to be coming from the vocal double and/or possible spatial processing you've done (chorus, detune or something like that)

well no time to finish this mix last installment using a software amp in the mix

Congrates to the band involved

No Outboard used at all

Used AXP Softdrive GV
Custom Baron k88 PDVHP
Custom Drums

Process - AXP Softdrive GV staged into the Baronk88

This left me wondering what were you actually trying to achieve here. With no cymbals this sounds like a "remix" (a new treatment).

There's quite a lot of midrange in the electric guitars; you could possible clarify the mix quite a lot with cutting lots of 800 Hz from guitars here.

I think this mix needs more kick drum. If you don't like snappy kicks (as this mix would suggest so), try to feature lots of midrange in the kick drum (although it's really hard feat to pull off against a wall of guitars).

I downloaded those tracks some time ago...
But finally i gave this a shot!
Please, rate my mix, I spent some time with those lovely tracks.

I used just the original tracks, no reamp etc.
Hardware EQ and COMP on this.
Thanks for sharing Mickrich!

The bass sound kinda reminds me of Deftones' Around the Fur :) Cool!

I felt this mix didn't have enough kick low end against the bass guitar.

I feel the vocal esses are too loud here, especially when one realizes that this mix is otherwise a really dark one. How bright you want to make a mix whatsoever, try to keep the spectrum in balance so nothing sticks out.
