what about drums?

Hmm, I also have heard some good things about slipknots drummer but...I DON"T believe such a great drummer would play with such a crap of a band. I've never had much respect for them, I think someone who can play like that should be in a better band.

Most oh you have only mentioned the obvious good drummers. Portnoy, Peart - although I hate him and his rushers...

Dark Angel, I never heard ANYTHING about them after vocalist left and joined Oil!. But I'd like to hear some of their stuff.

My absoloute fave is Pete Sandoval, MA's drums are the most rawkin. I also like Lombardo but not quite as much.

Yeah, Bostaph was great... supposedly left/booted from Slayer because he was getting some kind of repetitive injury...

Too bad he wouldn't reform Forbidden...

Yes, Gene was the Genius in Dark Angel, for sure.

Hellhammer from mayhem- ulver - arcturus and others- is the best black metal drummer i ve ever heard-m and thus my personal opinion is that he is the best metal drummer- although that is a very biased opinion- i just am amazed at his techinicality while drumming like an absolute maniac

What about bass?

Steve Digiorgio is the best musician in Testament. I hope they turn up the bass on the next album, it was the only facet I didn't like about The Gathering's production.

Favorite Drummer - Mark Zonder
Favorite Testament Drummer - Dave Lombardo (also 2nd favorite drummer overall)

Also - Gene Hoglan is a great drummer. I've only recently discovered Dark Angel (Darkness Descends), but I intend to check out all of those cd's mentioned here.

Tempesta was great on Low, but I don't know his other stuff.

I was never impressed with Lou Clemant.

I think Paul Bostaph is the most over rated drummer in metal. This is coming from a fan of both Forbidden and Slayer.

If we are talking just metal drummers, Paul Bostaph is one of my favorite. I just saw Slayer last week and a good drummer makes all the difference. The dude they have now isn't bad but he isn't Paul. Gene is great too. Nick Menza (former Megadeth) is very clean and smooth drummer as well. But IMO none compare to Niel Peart. I know he isn't a metal drummer, but without a doubt he has set the standard.

Well you have this

and Portnoy, Hellhammer, Lumbargo, Jon Allen, Cannibal Corpse one (sorry forgot the name :D )

What Death albums did he play on? I've been thinking about collecting their albums lately, I'm going to start with the Gene Hoglan albums, but then I'll go on to one of the albums with Richard Christy.

No one has mentioned Raymond Herrera? This guy can do double bass at LEAST as fast as Lombardo, and his drum technique is amazing. Check him out on Fear Factory's "Soul of a New Machine" and "Demanufacture" albums...

is that the rj herrera who was in suicidal tendencies?
jimmybreaks - the dude slayer have drumming for them is dave lombardo! : )
i never got why lombardo was so over-rated...?
