What are your favorite speaker miking positions and mikes?

57, 121 and 421 has been winning for me.
position each mic with white noise til i get the sound.
don't generally use the same spot.

tend to keep about 3 " back at the minimum. Don't understand why anyone would shove the mic right in the grill cloth. sounds terrible.

57 mostly. I prefer my AT4040 to my 421 for a 2nd mic when I use one.

sm57, r121 and u87 for ambient

sometimes 2 beat up SM57s will get you the best metal tone.

position? well...thats pretty hard to know without being there.

I never really do the same technique for each session. I always like doing crazy shit. But Ive tested the whole put the SM57 about 6inches away and it worked out pretty damn good.
