I might try the free version with some amp VST plugin (never tried Lecto, Legion, TSEx30 and so on... and always wanted to) when my amp head will be at tech repair for retubing.

There are more metal/rock-oriented material than before it seems.

They also updated their website (it used to be kinda "meh") and now it rocks !

i read about the pi-free on another forum.. geezer suggested using an instance of it (enabling the PP EL34 power amp section only) and placing it before an amp sim (before? i hear you say..) in triode mode with the presence cranked and depth at around 12%..
once you set your input level its just a case of dialling in the power amp level to taste...
out of idle curiosity i just tried it in front of MAR and it sounds pretty fucking good to me!!!! check it out!

Finally tried out the ampsim (TSE x30 in this case) + impulses (Two Notes PI-FREE here) combo and i quickly got something decent sounding, and not too far from my regular (Engl SE into Torpedo VB-101) rythm guitar tone :

Now i have things set up to be able to play with my 2 guitars at the same time (same tone/panning as you can hear in the snippet above), which is great for jamming with guitar-playing friends when they come over.

And the CPU load is a non-issue for me here (with 2 guitar tracks playing at the same time, each with their own "TSE x30 + PI-FREE + EQ (HiCut) + NoiseGate" Fx chain in Reaper).

Quick mix (ultra-sloppy playing, strings older than your deceased grandma, shitty bass programming (Trilian VSTi), shitty drums programming (Superior 2), sloppy premastering, etc) using virtually the same (low cut is slightly different) PI-FREE settings for both TSE X30 et TSE X50 versions :

-TSE X30 (engl e530 preamp VST ampsim (free !!!)) + PI-FREE (engl 6L6 poweramp + marshall 412 v30 cab miked (close but a bit off centre) with sm57 + low cut sim (free !!!)), dualtracked (1 guitar (similar guitars but different tonal balance) hard-panned on each side, ampsim EQ and gain are slightly different from one side to another too), no post-EQ (you can tell :) ) :

-TSE X50 (Peavey 5150 II preampVST ampsim (free !!!)) + PI-FREE (engl 6L6 poweramp + marshall 412 v30 cab miked (close but a bit off centre) with sm57 + low cut sim (free !!!)), dualtracked (1 guitar (similar guitars but different tonal balance) hard-panned on each side, ampsim EQ and gain are slightly different from one side to another too), no post-EQ (you can tell :) ) :

While playing guitar alone (no backing track), the TSEX50 sounds better to me, but once in a mix the TSEX30 sounded more mix-ready (even if the tone sounds a bit nasty), but i guess that has to do with the fact that my mix template was tailored for a Engl-based guitar tone, and the X50 needs some post-EQ (to clean those low-mids among others).

Welp, tried to download the free version from them just now but I can't because the government just nuked Megaupload. :loco:

Are you talking about PI-101 V2 WOS or PI-FREE ?

Also, when you say "from them", you mean through their official website ?
http://www.two-notes.com

I asked Two Notes and they told me the files were hosted on their website and not megaupload.

I just tried downloading both (101 V2 WOS and FREE) and it worked for both (the first one is downloadable directly from the official website : http://www.two-notes.com/en/software/torpedo-pi-101-v2/), and the second one through a link (not a megaupload link) sent by email).
