What current and modern metal bands are using JCM800's?

the Voodoo Amps mod where they add another gain stage is super popular, I believe thats the one Ken from Unearth usually has

doesn't he have like a boost or something in his emgs or am i just crazy

Yes,

He has a Preamp Boost.

EMG-KFK Set
EMG introduces the EMG-KFK Kerry King (Slayer) signature model for 2005. The combination of the EMG-81 and EMG-85 along with the PA2 (20db gain booster) delivers maximum distortion for Kerry and Slayer's bone crushing tones. This is his exact configuration used for live and studio action.

I tried it on my Friends Black ESP KK Signature Model. It was noisey but I guess it might have some uses for a messy Kerry King solo with lots of noise and feedback.

I used to have a '76 JMP 2204. I'm an asshole for selling that amp. I wish I still had it. Great tone, louder than all shit. Pwned everything else I've played in terms of volume except other old Marshalls.

Here's a clip. Boosted 2204 I had the master on, like, 1.

Please someone explain me why someone would like to have an amp which is "louder than every other amp" whereas most of the amps can be way too loud already

I just don't get it... What's the point ?

I didn't. That's why I sold it, actually. It cut through at practice with the master on 2. If you're not used to Marshall dial settings, that's roughly 8:00. I don't think I ever had it above 4, gigging. It was very rare I got to turn it up loud enough to really take advantage of it. I was stupid for selling it- should have bought an attenuator instead.

My Mesa Mark IV was the only thing that came close in terms of sheer volume, but the Mark IV has wonderful power section options and the best master volume- and consequently low volume tones- of anything I've ever played. The Marshall had by far the least effective master. Marshalls have never had great master volumes, and the farther back you go, the worse they are.

I mentioned the sheer volume it's capable of solely because it's a defining characteristic of the amp- really, of all pre-JCM 900 Marshalls.

alrighty then :)

I don't know how much (or if at all) this JCM is being used, but here is a picture of Children Of Bodom in the studio (for their new album).
Check out that '800 ...

Don't tell me about that... :erk:
I owned an orange colored '76 MV JMP 2203 amp with a matching orange box loaded with G12H's...
I hated myself for trading it for JCM2000 DSL head+cab, but it gave me reliability issues no one around here could solve, wish there was someone capable enough... :waah:
I just loved its distinct orange tolex, it really stood out of the crowd and would love to get another one...
