What do people think about Zyklon?

I agree 100%. Emperor are on a level unreached by most bands. Zyklon is at the higher levels occupied by bands not of the elite.

I tend to stick with mostly elite bands anyway, so I'll skip Zyklon for now, until someone gives me a damn good reason to buy something from them.

I bought Equilibrium, and thought it sucked....way too repetitive. Too each their own.

I don't even think you can compare the 2. One is black...the other is more thrashy death.

Songs like Curse You All Men and An Elegy of Icaros are much more memorable than Zyklon's material. IX E is a decent frame of reference for the production and general sound, though. I find there's no spark in Zyklon. Doesn't sound inspired to me.

But since Zyklon is basically 2/3 of Emperor, those are some formidable credentials.

Sure, but the other 1/3 is what made Emperor. Samoth and Trym were Ihsahn's backup musicians, basically.

It's hardly an issue of "coolness", I just follow my tastes. If I like it, then I like it. If I don't, then I don't. I do listen to whatever the fuck I want.

By elite, I meant more of the well-known bands that are generally known as being a high point for a certain genre. I hate elitists.

Agreed. I find them really sterile and dull. I can, of course, appreciate their skill - but it would help if they could write a song that can be remembered for longer than the time it takes to play it.

I haven't heard a lot from them....but the song Way of the World on myspace sounds very good. Good chugging and guitar work and tempo changing.

It features Samoth and Trym of Emperor on guitar and drums respectively. Destruchtor of Myrkskog on guitar.

Their first album featured Daemon from Limbonic Art on vocals. While the last two albums feature Sechtdaemon of Myrkskog on vocals and bass.
