They really don't sound too bad to me. They may be a ouch over-saturated (...and i'm a distortion freak with vocals). I think the problem lies more in the mix, They sound like they are sitting on top of the guitars. Maybe take a little top off the guitars or ad some low mids, and turn 'em up a bit.
what do you cut out of other instruments for vocals?

compress the life out of them, pan wide, send to chorus, possibly reverb

yes, gang vocals, i never worked with them so im not sure how or what I should do with them.

get alot of takes. edit them to perfection. compress the fuck out of them. little bit of reverb. done
