This kind of goes with the now playing and last album threads. Most of us carry CD's around with us. In the car, work, school, whatever. What bands are in yours now? Do you listen to all the same type music or do you mix it up a bit.

Rule #1: NEVER EVER carry CDs out of the house.

I tape all my CDs al carry them in the car, walkman, etc. Usually I need only one tape to conmute to the job, so it'll around 1.5-2 CDs :D

I got a 60 gig mp3 player about 6 months ago. I carry my whole collection everywhere I go. I got a little FM broadcast thingy to use in the car and I plug it into powered computer speakers at work. I can't say enough good things about it.

Same with me here! In this regard I´m still very "old school", because I only listen to tapes in my car. It makes it also less likely that someone will break into my car, I mean, who would steal a cheap car-radio/cassette-player?

The tapes I´m listening to in my car are:

Atrox - "Terrestrials"
Atrox - "Orgasm"
Nightwish - "Oceanborn"
Fear Of God - "Within The Veil"
Gåte - "Iselilja" (my current favourite)
Två Fisk Och En Fläsk - "Jungfruburen"
Två Fisk Och En Fläsk - "Flesh Workshop - 2005"

I guess us old fucks just don't buy into those cd slip cases huh?

I tried to use one but it just makes my skin crawl sliding the discs in and out of the holder..... plus with out the cover artwork I go mad. :) SO before I leave the house I always pick out 2 or 3 discs to get me where I'm going, usually cdr's of course... don't want anything to happen to the originals.

I don't do MP3's I'm just not hip I suppose. I carry about 75 discs at any given time in a hard shell case that looks like one of those gear cases that bands have. In addition to that I have a lap top full of music at work & about 100 cdrs of various stuff in the car, way,way too much stuff to list! I like the thread though. I see stuff that I have in mine from other's lists...

When I returned home after living in USA, I carried all my CDs in a big slipholder into my hand luggage (I shipped the jewel cases separately). Had been the only time my CDs had been outside the cases.

I have a small holder to carry CDs (with the jewel case) if I want to take them out of the house, but usually Rule #1 applies :D

I have a 32 cd case. I'm waiting til these mp3 players and ipods come down in price, and increase in memory. It's going to take a long time to add my cd's to one of those things. LOL

In the case now:

new....Opeth, Flotsam, Arch Enemy, Nevermore, Redemption, Pagan's Mind, Iron Mask, Starbreaker, Russell Allen, Yngwie.

older...

Dimmu Borgir - DCA
Megadeth - System Has Failed

I love reading these things!!! I must say, I used to follow the same rule as Wyvern and never take a disc outta the house. I would tape them to cassette and the cd was to be used ONLY for listening to in the house on my hi fi system. No more. Since becoming a father I have lost a certain amount of "respect" for my cd collection because 1.) I have sold a bunch of discs I don't listen to on ebay because I just don't have the time to play 'em all...and 2.) I have lost a couple of my beloved (even signed) cd's to the baby's desire to either eat or throw anything in her path. Cd's can be replaced...it may take a few bucks, but over time...if you really want them...you can get 'em back or get a burn from a buddy...they just don't hold that sacred "ooh and ah" for me anymore. BUT, I still love 'em and here's what's in my cd wallet right now! (BTW, it's a KISS cd wallet! I am a geek)

Social Distortion - Sex, Love and Rock N Roll

Not to hijack the thread or anything but I don't know of a better place to respond...

My suggestion would be to go to a store and try 'em out. The user interface may be a big deal to you or it may not. The Ipods are the class outfit in that regard (and in size too) but you pay for it. Price was my main concern so I got a Creative Labs Nomad Jukebox Zen Xtra. No, I didn't get it because it had the longest name. ;) I know of another person that got a Rio Kharma and likes it just fine. A few other things to consider:

Apple dings more heavily for accessories than the others do.

The Sony version uses a proprietary format (not MP3).

I originally had a 30 Gig and it was filling up rather quickly at about the 300 CD mark. My wife liked it so well that I was afforded the opportunity to gift the 30 to her and acquire the 60 for myself. Two birds, one stone. :tickled:

An extended warranty is a good idea -- they're all hard drives and do take a fair bit of abuse even with very careful use.

Does it have something to do with us old farts having to be so careful with vinyl? I know when I see a youngster abusing CDs it makes my skin crawl too. I know that they'll get away with it with no/minimal damage to the discs but still...
