On the netbook thing... go for whatever netbook is cheap and install your own favorite distro. The distros that come with netbooks like the Eee are awful, so jump on any good deal you find and install whatever you like. (I picked up an Eee from Woot six months ago for $150 and the thing might as well have said Fisher-Price on it - Fedora and Ubuntu can handle everything on the more common netbooks anyway.)

I've been turning down presents whenever possible. Those who have to get me something go for gift cards, since most of my money goes to books anyway.

Weird! I met one today at jiu-jitsu! He saw my belt (which says "Shpongled" on the backside) and asked if I was a Simon Posford fan. That has happened twice now in my whole life, someone else knowing what the hell Shpongle is. Small world, or maybe people are finally catching on
