What does Blackguard do when not touring? (aka the thread that won't die)

I know alot of true metallers who listen to 3IOB. To say they have no credibility within that scene is utterly ridiculous. Metalcore? What? For someone who claims to have been so involved with the hardcore scene, Diabolik should at least have a knowledge of what hxc actually sounds like.

Does it make any difference in the money flow put into the band WHEN that CD is purchased? Yes it does.

I can't believe I'm saying this but I agree. Yeah, CD sales no matter what help, but at the end of the day labels and industry people look at the first couple weeks or so the most in order to decide future contracts, following albums stock, merch, etc.

At the end of the day it's just like the movie business. A movie needs to get a big haul opening weekend, but if it doesn't, it'll be lucky to stay in theaters a month. And based on that, is how many dvds/blu-rays are made and distributed months down the road, and much like cds those determine possible sequels, creative members working together, etc. So it is sort of the same thing.

I think the argument here is more of what labels look at vs the importance of overall sales. Sales are very important for bands, no matter when they are, but if you want a band you're a fan of to continue its success, you need to pick up that new disc in the first couple of weeks because THAT is what the labels and bookers look at I would guess more than anything.

That growler never hurt the band. People actually liked the blend of vocals. Regardless though, even if what you said was true, it isn't true now since that "mealcore screamer" you are speaking of is no longer in the band and hasn't been ever since the production of their last album.

I know lots of people who wouldnt bother with them since the screamer guy was in the band. Metalcore screaming is almost next to rap as worst form of music.

3 Inches of Blood has a METALcore screamer. It is very different than hardcore. Listen to true hardcore like early Cro-mags, Gorilla Biscuits, SFA, Warzone, Youth of Today, No For An Answer and you will hear what hardcore really is....metal core is nothing like it in any sort of way....hardcore has raw power and emotion....metalcore is emo hardcore kids suddenly turning metal with thier whinny screams still in the music. Like that guy who was in 3 Inches of Blood.

He's not and the new one isn't too bad. Honestly, I didn't seem to mind him on their earlier stuff though. Really thought they used Pipes more in the songs anyway and used screamer guy as backup.

Well count me in the camp that doesn't give a shit about the band's credibility. I think they're a lot of fun and the haters can pretty much sit n' spin for all the shit I give. You know, the screamy guy never really detracted much from the music itself, which leads me to believe that the people bitching about the "metalcore" are a bunch of crybabies themselves.

Because you know, even fi you're doing it in a loosely metalcore style, screaming about feasting on carrion isn't exactly what I'd call emo.

Hehe...thanks for the sig. :kickass:

I am with you on this.
Though at the same time, people who say they don't give a shit, truly are the ones who get all up in arms when Diabolik makes comments like that.

Take the Sword for example.
Their haters primarily dis them for being trend followers or riding the "Retro wave" or whatever.
I care most about the music, and I think they have three albums of amazing Sabbath worship under their belt which make for a fun listen.

If I like a band, I like a band. Period.
Though, at the same time, I have no issues with people who make the claims that they aren't kvlt or tr00 enough.

Even though I like a lot of bands who I consider to be "true", it's still the music that matters most. Sure, I certainly appreciate the non-music reasons for liking these bands (IE - the DIY ethic, staying true to their sound, not following trends, being cool with fans, keeping costs of merch low, etc, etc), it always comes down to the tunes.

Someone who doesn't think Blackguard tour enough!

Actually, other way around. True metallers are like Jasonic and Diabolik who think they tour too much!

And Jasonic, to answer your question, true metallers according to me, are dungeon master elitist snobs who read ANUS and Metal Archives as their bible and think that Marduk and Watain are actually good bands.

Marduk is a good band ... "Those of the Unlight" is an awesome DEATH METAL album, even if the band is known as a black metal unit.

haha to each their own. I think they're whack as hell personally. Panzer Division Marduk had its moments though. :)

You know, you're probably right - they stink. They used to tour all the time when I was living back in Denmark, and there's just something about that which bothers me ... you know that feeling that a band is just "too much around"? That's not "troo" enough, so I probably should stick with them being a sucky band.

c.

I wouldn't call them "true metallers". To be a such requires at least a minimum of knowledge about the scene ...

Well there's a difference (at least to me anyways) in being a part of the scene and having an opinion and knowing what goes on behind the scenes. Alot of metal fans just don't care about metal bands making money. It's a taboo. The reality of bands needing to earn a living to satisfy their scene is a reality that is ignored by them so they can perpetuate the sentimentalism that comes with being "tr00". Not pointing fingers or say all truesters are like that, but it's definitely a common trait exhibited by the most seasoned elitist dungeon master.

I had this conversation with a friend a few months ago actually. Those who are obsessed with the hardcore scene are bros, those who are obsessed with the indie scene are hipsters, and those who are obssessed with the metal scene are... nerds. It's unavoidable, and it's possible to be all 3 of these things at once (I could easily be a brohipsternerd for sure!). Hhahaha.
