What does Blackguard do when not touring? (aka the thread that won't die)

Claus - I am done discussing this with you. That is complete 100% bullshit that your only response to my comments are "I am right and you are wrong" That is extremely elitist. You made some factual points that I agreed with but many subjective ones as well. Bottom line is that we don't see eye to eye, which you are obviously not comfortable with.

Dolomite - I don't even know where to begin. I have had various offline discussions with my butting heads with folks on this forum. I wholeheartedly agree with being out of line at times and I have toned things down. There is nothing I have stated in this thread that is out of line. I am speaking from the view point of a metal fan who goes to shows and purchases CDs, in regards to bands who jump from tour to tour and get overexposed. Some, such as yourself, are obviously threatened by differing opinions from the majority here.

Unlike others, I have not resorted to insults to get any point across.

Glenn, can u just ban Jasonic and Diabolik so we can avoid these threads? Powerfest did, come on join the club. Although it did occupy almost an hour of my time.

Powerfest forum died when they got banned. True story.

I'd rather they not go away. They've never been to ProgPower, but I like them. And honestly I agree with the sentiment behind what they say pretty often.

again...many thanks. it is amazing when people meet Jason or myself that they are usually pleasantly surprised how nice and charming we are (myself more than Jason).

This. What else were you going to do today?

Word!

Also, for what it's worth, I do believe that even though I have not attended the fest, that I do contribute to this forum. I constantly suggest bands that I think folks on this forum would like. Furthermore, guys like Diabolik and myself have been fans of and have discussed MANY bands who are now household names around here, years before some here would consider them. The bottom line is, I am here to discuss the one thing I am extremely passionate about, and that is music.

It's the open minded people here who I have butted heads with in the past who I now consider to be good online friends (IE - Zod, AngraRULES, edgeofthorns, etc, etc.)

I keep coming here primarily because I do see a major shift from 5 years ago in how open minded many here have become. I too have become more open minded about music in general, which is why I feel I do get along well with the Prog Power community.

Except for that last stab you had to get in, right?

I can't believe that you don't understand that the "I am right and you are wrong" is extremely tongue-in-cheek. Pull that blindfold away from your eyes.

EPIC FAIL

Its okay to make fun of me in public everyone else does. And it wasnt a fail, I couldnt give one shit about you let alone two, like I said it was merely in jest. Perhaps I should have included a  or a  or a :loco: so sorry charlie

One band I can think of that has toured extensively as an opener and is now headlining is Trivium. About 4-5 years ago it seemed like Trivium was the opener on every damn tour that I went to see. Arch Enemy, Machine Head, In Flames, etc, etc. I remember complaining to my friends that I was sick of seeing them open for every band I liked. Now in the last year or two Trivium is headlining in the exact same venues where they were previously the opener. While I don't really care for their music, I have to give them respect for paying their dues and reaching a headliner status because of the exposure and hard work.

Another band that comes to mind is Behemoth. From about 2004 to, I dunno, 2006, they seemed to be an opening act on lots of tours that came through here, and they're now doing very well it seems.

Arsis was an opener on many Atlanta shows a bit after that but I haven't seen them do any headlining shows (but that doesn't mean they have not).

And nowadays Goatwhore seems to be another band that is on a lot of shows. Perhaps the constant touring will pay off for them as well.

Instead of trying to battle back and fourth, lets get back to the discussion at hand. Another example of touring too much is the thrash band Bonded By Blood.

I like them. But in 5 months they are already on 4 to 5 tours. I didnt even bother going to see them a few weeks back with Early Man since I knew I would be seeing them with Forbidden next month......then they are already playing with Early Man again in Feb. This is kind of tour overkill since you will be playing again for the same people on each tour since all the tours are thrash package tours. Sure it is good to get your name out but like we said before it can cause band burnout. Once in a while you need to get on a tour where new people can get introduced to you. Like Turisas did on the Dragonforce tour. A good move since lots of new people were able to see them who would never see them or even hear of them. Basically you have to just be smart on things.

Yes, thanks Palabra....

I think what it comes down to is that the open minded metal fans here who are passionate about discussing music truly have no issues with Bob or myself.

diference is....I kept it off the forum in respect for the rules. While you decided to bring it in. whatever.....

Whatevs....
The post further solidified my thoughts of this guy as nothing other than an arse kisser. He was a Rob and Chris arse kisser, up until the festival ended of course.

Sonata Arctica benefitted from a tour with Dragonforce, too. Dragonforce was well known to the young kiddies, but Sonata wasn't. So on top of their speedy songs about dragons, they got a bunch of awesome songs with wolf howls and puppets. And a keytar.

..lol.

God I love you, Tony Kakko.....

Actually Sonata were already popular with the younger crowd. When I saw them on a tour or two before the Dragonforce one it was all 15 to 17 year olds and I was the creepy old man there.

Bahaha! The first time I saw them play, it was all power-metal-heads. It would be nice if a band like that got actual radio play, the way DF does.

The first time I heard Sonata Arctica, Dragonforce wasn't even called Dragonforce yet. Then the first time I saw Sonata Arctica, Dragonforce only had one album out and nobody really gave a damn about who they were...

The good old days...

Clearly, people underestimated the power of dragons and sweeps!

Sorry my dear, Rhapsody already existed and was showing the world how to talk about Dragons and do sweeps.

The funny thing is that Rhapsody was accused of not being able to pull it off live. Then you compare Rhapsody live with Dragonforce live and you realize the accusations would've made more sense if they picked the latter.

Dude, you're talking to ME about Rhapsody? I f'ing love Rhapsody! The difference is that their original albums also featured a guy who sounded like the long lost son of Gary Gynax, narrating a Dn'D game for a group of 24 year old Computer Programming majors.

I mean REALLY.

"At the court of King Chaos..."

I think you missed my point completely.

I know you love Rhapsody. But then again, with the amount of young people who have recently gotten into the music in our "scene" (by that I mean the last 5 years or so), who think Sonata Arctica, Kamelot, Firewind and Dragonforce are the pioneers, and the biggest names there has ever been in Power Metal, I can't help but feel the need to point out who came first and that there was actually *so much more (and better) bands* before them.

"HOLY SHIT OMG!! POWER METAL IS THE MOST AWESOME THING EVER!! DRAGONFORCE AND SONATA ARCTICA INVENTED THE GENRE, THEY'RE SUCH PIONEERS! OMGOMGOMG!"

You know, those types...
