What does Blackguard do when not touring? (aka the thread that won't die)

I know a couple of "meanies" I met at the Strato/PM show in Addison...
I thought they were ok dudes.....:kickass:

That's right!!!
I completely forgot that we met (though very briefly) that night.
Lots of Prog Power forum folks at that show actually.

Look, as much as I might squabble with Dolomite, I am sure if we were at a show together, we would throw back a beer, and laugh about some of these discussions, and then find some common ground about some band we both like. Happens all the time.

Angra is amazing....nothing can top this first 3 or 4 CD's...they kind have gotten dull as of late but those first bunch are classics.

I think I made a big mistake in FIREWORKS being the first CD of theirs I ever had. Let's just say it didn't make me want to ever check out more, though fans of theirs usually state this not to be their finest hour.

Maybe someday I will go back and check out more of their premeire material, as there are certainly enough of you who vouche for them here.

Fireworks is my second favorite....Holy Land is my favorite.

That's a bit of a mistake, yes. Here's the deal. I am going to create a thread with a few Angra songs for you to check out whenever you're ready. You should bookmark it, and check when you feel like it. It's gonna be called "A Special Angra-Holiday Gift for Jasonic." Just make sure to let us know what you think. :)

Goodness gracious x10000000000000!!!! It's astounding what can happen on this forum after not checking for a full day. I thought the thread got as antagonistic as I've seen in the past, but I guess that was only the beginning. Some need to seriously take a pill of chillaxin. I think it would work wonders.

As I said many, many pages ago and Jason has reiterated, people need to learn to respect a difference of opinion. This is a forum after all, and quite honestly it would be boring if we all agreed with one another all the time, correct?

I am glad to see this thread toning down though. I think some of us (no, I'm not aiming this at any one or a group of people) need to be able to debate with each other in the future, sans the name calling and taking things so damn personally.

I couldn't give two rats asses about lightening up on a band because a member posts here or if they played the festival. We aren't talking about festival appearances.

THIS. I think it's cool that some bands do post on here, but having said that, any band who posts on a forum should know very well what they're getting into and that people will possibly say bad things about them.

'bout friggin' time! You've said before you were gonna do this, so I hope you're telling the truth here. Yes I realize I could've checked on my own, but sometimes I'm a bit lazy with that to be perfectly honest.

It took me a looooong time to get through this thread! Been clicking "Multi-Quote" for 5 pages now! Anyway...

...at least 30 people who will go to shows JUST FOR POWERGLOVE. Not shitting you. In fact, when I played with Firewind, I met some fellow followers of the Dork-kingdom who told me they came to see POWERGLOVE.
But also, Powerglove is hardly a real band. They are more of a novelty.

Shaaaaaablaagoooo!!

"Fuckin' Mint Berry Crunch..."

Sonata Arctica benefitted from a tour with Dragonforce, too. Dragonforce was well known to the young kiddies, but Sonata wasn't. So on top of their speedy songs about dragons, they got a bunch of awesome songs with wolf howls and puppets. And a keytar.
Sonata headlined 3 or 4 tours before opening on tours.

The first time I heard Sonata Arctica, Dragonforce wasn't even called Dragonforce yet. Then the first time I saw Sonata Arctica, Dragonforce only had one album out and nobody really gave a damn about who they were...

The good old days...
Amen, brother!:headbang:

Sorry my dear, Rhapsody already existed and was showing the world how to talk about Dragons and do sweeps.

The funny thing is that Rhapsody was accused of not being able to pull it off live. Then you compare Rhapsody live with Dragonforce live and you realize the accusations would've made more sense if they picked the latter.
Well said!
Dude, you're talking to ME about Rhapsody?
...but didn't you start listening to Rhapsody of Fire before you got into Rhapsody? :heh:

Didn't Sonata Arctica actually headline first in the States before opening?
Yep
I think before the first headline tour, they were scheduled to tour opening for NW, but it got canceled.
Yep. Sonata kept a few of the dates and played a few small, but outstanding (best times I saw them) headlining shows.

The first time Sonata played the States, they were opening for Overkill on a few dates. I don't recall if that was before the NW tour cancellation or after (think after). It seems the band tried to get a few shows in the country so they could "try it out."
I think the Overkill dates were after. The cancelled Nightwish tour of early 2005 was Sonata's first tie in the States. I saw their first US show ever and there was probably 50 to 100 people there, and myself and about 5 others were the only ones who knew every single song they played. The next 2 headlining tours saw the crowds getting larger. By the time they toured Unia, their shows were selling out. Then the did the Dragonforce tour and I think a tour with Nightwish.

On a completely different note (since I believe we can change topics after page 3...), when I first started listening to metal 6 years ago, all my power metal knowledge came from those Limb Music inserts in all those cheesy power metal band CDs. I remember buying the first Olympos Mons album because it had a cool album cover. :headbang:
I own or at some point owned all of the Limb Music stuff! I seriously bought EVERYTHING from those inserts (and other labels, too). Found some really amazing bands through those! Some of my favorite albums of all time are Limb Music albums, such as the Pagan's Mind albums, Oratory- Beyond Earth, Galloglass- Legends from Now & Nevermore & Heavenseeker, Olympos Mons- Conquistador, the Rhapsody albums...Fuck, There are so many great Limb bands!:headbang::headbang:

Ok, enough out of me...

Jumping on all these tours and living the same night over and over isnt what an artist does.

Ummmmm. Okay.

To relate it back to Blackguard, the band only has one album. If they put out a follow up that blows us all away, we may eat our words. I want to see good songs live.

I'm sure their ultimate plan would be to open a lot as they're doing now, then go into the studio, cut a new record, do some more support gigs, now armed with TWO albums' worth of material, and then -- maybe -- look into headlining.

heh, you know that Nevermore hasn't played PP yet.

Ahhhh, but Warrel WILL be..... :)

Good God! A band couldn't ask for a better thread! Well over one hundred posts that refer to Blackguard!

How about- "What does Artizan do when not touring?"
The answer........wish we were BLACKGUARD!! Bwaahahaa!

Good for these guys. And, their drummer , who happens to be a chick, is fucking phenomenal! I watched her from the VIP area this last ProgPower....much respect.

...and now back to not touring...

That's an epically awesome post for an epic thread. In fact.....

The other thing about Blackguard is the money it seems they've put in themselves, or given to them by the label for their image. They have the big banners with their logo, complete with skull, shield, sword and fire. And drummer has the big emblazoned logo on the drumkit. I actually think their stuff looks really cool, but I wonder who paid for it. As Claus intimated, it's them. And they're deep into debt because of all those expenses.

Haha! I'm currently working on a Helloween collection. :headbang: When I first discovered Rhapsody and all those other guys, I painstakingly collected all of their CDs.. Helloween is next!

Go get the Keeper albums. If you're into power metal, they're not even optional purchases. With those albums, Helloween created the formula that every band has followed for the past two decades.

Seriously. I can't take serious someone who says they like Power Metal, yet ignore bands (and certain albums) by Helloween, Stratovarius, Angra, Gamma Ray and Blind Guardian.

(not that it's necessarily the case with Dutchess, but in general...)

Blind Guardian was the 2nd band I ever got into. I still say that Imaginations From the Other Side is the best album I've ever had, in the history of EVER.

And yes, I got into Rhapsody of Fire before Rhapsody. I was spoiled with Christopher Lee, so when I heard Gary Gynax Jr. in their first albums it made me want to punch stuff.

And I do not ignore Helloween, Stratovarius, Angra, or Gamma Ray! Camaaaaaaan!! Helloween, especially.. because I may be opening for them, soon! And everyone knows that I only open for bands that I would throw my panties at. It's science.

I did say that it wasn't necessarily the case with you.

Shit, I missed that. That is a major sin, ya know? It's like saying you got into Stratovarius through Elements pt. 2 or Polaris...

As long as it made you go check out the band, it's all good though!

Hay, gimme a break! I'm only 26 years old, and I was the sheltered child of two immigrants living in a ghetto DC suburb.. my entire childhood revolved around comic books and not being shot!
