Yes, actually the title "emptiness of life" is general-like and standart, qiute abstract, I would say. But if we come to that "realistic language" Jonas is so eager to use on that album, it becomes not so evident what he really means. Maybe someone has got his explanations, concerning various songs - to make things clearer?

He has lost his love, he has nothing left but memories and pain.... lost everything worth living for, therefor emptiness, and thereby suicide....which he commits in "evidence".

The expressions reflect an inner emptiness given birth from an existence within a world which has long since suffered from its own emptiness. The soul of the work is empty in the fulfillment of life, finding relief and security only in dark corners of the self and of the elements that the world has rejected. Hollowness, shallowness, superficial endeavors and destructive misunderstandings have relegated this spirit to its only defense and comfort: one of a percieved impenetrable shield of darkness, perhaps the only truth in the world of deception kings.

thebleakhorizon... man... have you really read the lyrics?

dAnus, nah... that feeling is describen at last fair deal gone down, not viva emptiness.

well, i'll try to explain the title without involving the album story once more, it's about the line itself, "Viva Emptiness". i think it's kinda sarcastic, it describes our modern society and people being more often products of it, not willing to think and handle for themselves but being dependent on media, tv... and all that stuff. since there's no chance to change the situation, therefore "Viva Emptiness".
o.k., it's not really my idea, i think i've just made a pariphrasis of Jonas' statement about it.

QUOTE]

Not only have I read the lyrcis, but I have drowned myself in them on many a night. No one that I have encountered can match Renske's lyrical effectiveness. He is a master of crafting images and self-realizations through words. Like every written work, each individual will have their own interpretation. That's the beauty of art.

Okay, well I think you're overreacting when you descrinbe their emtpiness :)

Interesting...most of the world's population would react to Katatonia's music as an overreaction. The depth behind the plain-spoken lyrics are the weight that prevades nearly every comparison. I never approached Katatonia as a surface level act. Clearly, what lies beneath plays a much greater role than the surface presentation of most other attempts.

Think that what you've got is already really great. Don't try to push it, life is life nomatter how much makeup you wear.
Walking by a wire, how much tension a man has in his daily life.
I don't care how you think about it. Some of those lyrics remind me of a way of thinking that isn't set in by the greedy society.

Drynwhyl, okay...

thebleakhorizon, well allright... I just wondered about "shield of darkness, perhaps the only truth in the world of deception kings." Doesn't sound so defining from Viva Emptiness :) But I think I get it.

dAnus, well when I think about katatonia depression against the society, I think of last fair deal gone down, right away... The story of V.E certainly describes a society, but that's not really the deal I think...

IAmEternal, so I can't be critical? Then what's a forum about? Should I just agree with everything?
