What genre is Katatonia?

Without wishing to cause offence I have to totally disagree, of course it's metal, what the hell else is it?
And it's better not to be? What's that supposed to mean?

The thing I hear a lot about them, which is more apparent on "Discouraged Ones" and "Tonight's Descision" than on "LFDGD," is the similarity to some of the "shoegazer" (because a lot of them used to stare at the floor while they played) bands from the UK, most obviously My Bloody Valentine and Catherine Wheel. That hypnotic riffing was the foundation of the whole movement which started with bands like The Jesus & Mary Chain and Spacemen 3. I've not heard their style applied from a 'metal' perspective until I heard Katatonia. It was a nice surprise indeed. 
My friend called them Shoegazer Doom Metal. But I don't like labels...

I know that categorizing music sucks, and Katatonia are probably fighting against that, but I believe it can be fun to think about it. I consider Katatonia a mixture of Gothic Rock and Alternative, with a Metal touch on the heavy riffing, but I wouldn't say what kind of Metal it is. Definitely not Doom, but on the other hand, people generally have different opinions on what Doom should sound like. But that belongs to another subject altogether...

Yeah but people often refuse til i tell them what type of music it is 
And they often don't like d/l songs they don't know they'll like. I usually put some songs on a compilation cd to get them in2 it
