The Odyssey it's definetly heavier album. But 'V' will always be SX's second masterpiece (after DWOT) IMHO
They are very different.. can't really be compared that way, IMO. I like both of the equally, I guess.

V is definitely better. However, Divine Wings of Tragedy is the unmatched album, and I really don't see them ever topping it. It would be awesome if they could though.

I think V is better, Odyssey is kinda too guitar and shred oriented when V has more cool keyboard and bass parts.
I wonder if it was ever their attempt to top V

V is definitely more complexly arranged than The Odyssey, but I think both albums are great and can't really be compared to each other because the vision the guys had for each album was different.

I like "The Odyssey" and "DWoT" better than "V", mainly because I feel that the vocals were mixed a little low in "V". ESPECIALLY "The Grand Design".

It's really hard to compare all the albums cause they all are very different from each other and have their own strenghts. I still think "V" is a tiny bit ahead of "The Odyssey", "TiO", "TDWOT" and "The Damnation Game". I just think the concept as a whole is absolutely perfect. Maybe it's not really the better music on "V", but the whole concept just makes this album very special imo. Everytime I listen to that album I'm fascinated how flawless it is. Every single song adds to the atmosphere of the concept, and that's really a rare thing looking at all these "wannabe-concept albums" out there.
On the other albums there are really great moments as well (the song "The Odyssey" is easily on the same level as "V" imo), but there are also songs that dont move me that much. I couldnt name a single Sy-X song I dont like, but there are some I like more than others, and on every other album there are one or two I like a little less than the others. On "V" I cant really name a favorite or a least-liked song, they are all just equal - equal on a VERY high level that is.

I honestly believe V is the best album from SX based on the level of creativity involved.
1.) Mike and the guys had to create a story/myth just based on some other mythologies and with out a specific story that has already been written eg. The Odyssey
2.) This being a concept album ALL the songs had to be tied in with one another to keep the story going. This must have been a creativce nightmare, but the guys come shining through!
3.) I liked the Orchestrations much better than on the Odyssey, both sound and composition. V I thought had more counter parts in it so you get more of a Symphonic feel from it, Odyssey had parts that were just repeating what the other instruments were doing.
Well those are my points, so it must be LAW!

I personally prefer V to the Odyssey but both are excellent albums. But then again my favorite 2 albums by the band are The Damnation Game and V
