what is your favorite old school heavy metal band?

Why do I have to name another band? The question was which band do I prefer, not which band is still big.

And, Maiden wouldn't be around if it weren't for Judas Priest and Black Sabbath.

By the way, Iron Maiden went to shit during the Blaze Bailey era.

I don't think many people will argue that. those 2 albums were pretty horrible. But when Bruce came back they put out 3 very strong albums. And they are still kicking ass, headlining donnington, out selling any other metal band and have almost ZERO radio play or MTV publicity. They have more than proven that they don't give a fuck about anything but doing what they do and never selling out

Believe it or not, I agree with you that Maiden are a great band, I've never said otherwise.

They're just not my FAVORITE.

But that makes me a moron.

yes you are, please name another band that has started in the early 80's and is still putting on the best live shows in metal and putting out solid records?

Alice Cooper.... late '60s. Alice started at the same period as Black Sabbath but his music was much more evil and Dark, and live shows... well Alice pretty well owns that.

Ozzy is mediocre as a solo artist. Black Sabbath may have started metal but what happened to them??? Judas Priest went to shit after Painkiller. Metallica sold out with the black album.

The only other possible bands you can think about putting against maiden is Slayer and Pantera. But without maiden neither of those bands would be around.

Uhm... they started out in 1974 and the Soundhouse Tapes were released around 1979.

Moron!

I think they mellowed out after Powerslave myself :zombie: :kickass:

What about Motorhead? Or Megadeth? Or Overkill? Or Suicidal Tendencies? All of those bands started out either in the 70s or early 1980s and they're still putting out some pretty damn good music.

Maybe they got a little more mellow, but I really liked everything they released up until the Blaze albums. I've liked the albums they've released since Dickenson rejoined them.:kickass:

All good choices! Motorhead would be my pick just from that list!:kickass:

Would '84-'93 count as old school? If so i vote Sepultura, they own Anthrax and that whole big scene of american thrash bands anyday and Max Cavalera could kill Mustaine at song writing
