Would '84-'93 count as old school? If so i vote Sepultura, they own Anthrax and that whole big scene of american thrash bands anyday and Max Cavalera could kill Mustaine at song writing
What about Motorhead? Or Megadeth? Or Overkill? Or Suicidal Tendencies? All of those bands started out either in the 70s or early 1980s and they're still putting out some pretty damn good music.
Alice Cooper.... late '60s. Alice started at the same period as Black Sabbath but his music was much more evil and Dark, and live shows... well Alice pretty well owns that.
Alice Cooper is metal? :zombie:

Megadeth you serious? They had Rust In Peace which was amazing. Other than that their albums were spotty. When they were all together, with Marty Friedman, and Dave Ellefson they were a great band. Now the only remaining member is Dave Mustaine. And the records he has put out have been marginal at best. So while Megadeth has had some great material it's nearly impossible to say they are the best Metal band of all time.
Motorhead you could argue for. I personally don't care for them too much. I respect what they do/did for the cross over punk/ metal type scene. And yes they have been around for ever and still put out records. So while I don't think their music is technically even true 'metal' they can definitely be in consideration
Suicidal Tendencies. Ok Join the Army, How Will I Laugh Tomorrow.., Lights camera, Suicidal, and Art of Rebellion are great metal records. But before that and after that they went the punk/funk route and haven't put out any really good metal records since that time. I love their music and wish they would get back and do some great thrash albums again. they could still go out and tour big venues
Overkill...no comment lol
IDon't get me wrong, I like Maiden, but they're not even the best NWoBHM band, let alone the best metal band of all time.
Iron Maiden has their own unique sound and have never sold out

What ever that means. But I think most old school metal fans will pretty much all agree Iron Maiden is the best metal band and held the test of time longer than any other metal band. Just because Sabbath so called 'started' metal doesn't mean they are the best. There are a million bands that came out sounding like Sabbath, Iron Maiden has their own unique sound and have never sold out
"Bring your daughter, bring your daughter...
To the slaughter,
Let her go, let her go, let her go!"
The stupidest song, the worst maiden's albumuke:
I don't HATE it, but it was kind of a sell out song for them.
I love Maiden but that song is so bad it even got to no.1 in the UK charts
I agree that the Max Era Sepultura albums were all genious and completely under-rated for what they were. I was a little dissapointed though after Chaos A.D. I didn't care for roots too much. I thought Arise was their last true brilliant thrash album. So unfortunately that is only 3 records that were amazing, Schizo, BTR, and Arise. But i still love Chaos AD, it's just different. Morbid Visions is funny. But I do like Soulfly and think Max Cavalera is one of the best Metal icons in history.
