What do you mean? Epic, as in like long, grandiose songs dealing with complex themes and composition? Or epic as in internet slang like, 'ZOMG THIS IS WIN, EPIIIIC!"?

Well Borknagar has an album called Epic so that's why they're in there

But seriously, if you mean just epic as in stuff that is considered good then it all boils down to a matter of taste. Most people equate 'epic' bands and music as stuff that incorporates magnificent vocals, great composition and melodies, deep and meaningful/poetic lyrics... and it all adds up so something just has a very majestic tone.

Partially what Joe said, but imo its moar liek when a song gives you the feeling thats.. well, like in a movie, like, well if you saw Beowulf; when he rides that dragonthing.. if it gives you such a feeling, a feeling of a coming climax or whatever
Well, actually, anything that gives you very intense and EPIC feelings just feeling you'd get at an epic movie something

I have to agree. Although Necrophagist are a band of epic quality, i wouldn't consider their music to be epic. Orchestration, synth layers and a general "big" sound is my definition of epic, much like Wintersun.

epic is hard to describe.

Very thick and rich in colour, usually with alot of force. Most people would recognize 'epic' with strong orchestras, and generally a lot of instrumentation.
